  • A beautiful, comfortable house with excellent facilities in a stunning location.

We were 10 people (2 families) and the house was absolutely perfect for us. The courtyard and grounds are much bigger than we imagined and we enjoyed the space. The bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent (although the face height beam in the family room is a hazard, it is a beautifully developed characterful space). The 2 older teenagers loved the studio room with it's own sofa, TV and kitchen. The kitchen was very well-equipped and the 2 lounges plus the galleried landing gave loads of room for relaxing. Fresh bed linen/hand towels/tea towels were provided for changing after the first week which was welcome. The setting of Chez Furet is absolutely stunning. We loved the countryside views, watching the tractor ploughing and collecting the haybales and the starry skies at night, including shooting stars! We walked through the woods behind the house to a little chapel. It didn't feel totally isolated as there is a B&B next door but it was lovely to have so little traffic past the house. And it was only a short drive to the supermarket/boulangerie in Barbezieux. The pool was clean and we used it every day. It is not heated. When it was cloudy it was hard for the less tough of us to get straight in but when the sun was out it was very welcome refreshment. We enjoyed several day trips (nowhere more than 1 hour's drive), our favourite being the beautiful historic town of Aubeterre. The children loved the river swimming/inflatable obstacle course near Anguleme. Chez Furet has been our best holiday in years. We are definitely considering re-booking for next year. Our only suggestions would be more outdoor lights /pool lights so we could make the most of eating outside in the evening and having a swim at the end of a hot day. Also that the pool be given a clean half-way through a 2-week stay and that the light-bulbs in the floor on the galleried landing be changed to LED so they don't burn your feet. But those are only very minor gripes as overall we give it 11 out of 10. A wonderful holiday house! Thank you.

Recently returned from a lovely holiday at Walnut tree cottage. We loved the character of the cottage. It was well equipped and had everything that we needed as a young family. It also remained very cool which was a blessing for us at the children’s bed time. The garden was very large, we ate our meals under the walnut tree, played football on the lawn, cooled down in the pool, and drank lovely local wine on the terrace when the boys were in bed. We also enjoyed the bat watching. It was so peaceful and private. There was so much for us to do in the area. We were also fairly local to the main big supermarkets which was handy. Helen the host was very polite and responsive. She made up a information for guests folder which was so helpful and well thought out. Overal fantastic and good value for money.
