Make A Holiday Rental Cottage in Bangor, France, Your Home Away From Home

The sleepy village of Bangor sounds more like it should be within the United Kingdom, but this settlement is actually placed towards the south of the island of Belle Ile en Mer, off the coast of Brittany, in the far north-western corner of France. Bangor and Belle Ile en Mer are popular tourist destinations for the French and international visitors alike. They offer you the chance to experience a side of France that would have been more typical in years gone by, and all of this this delightful tranquillity is definitely best explored when staying in your very own self catering accommodation in Bangor.

Things to Do on Holiday in Bangor, France

The island of Belle Ile en Mer is large enough to ensure that there are a plethora of activities to choose between during your holidays in Bangor. For tourists looking for action, the west coast is definitely where you should head. Here, surfing, wind-surfing, jet skiing and many other water-based activities are available for you to well and truly get your teeth into. As the island is so beautiful, it is imperative for you to try and explore as much of it as you can. This can be done by way of scenic coastal and inland walks. There are also opportunities to enjoy swimming, horse riding, canoeing, fishing, pleasure boat cruises and tennis.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Bangor, France

The ports of La Palais and Sauzon are a real delight for you to visit and offer the majority of tourist facilities on the island of Belle Ile en Mer. These towns can be found towards the north of the island, but are still only a very short drive from your self catering accommodation in Bangor. It is worth bearing in mind that there are regular ferry crossings to the French mainland and these services leave from both La Palais and Sauzon. Once in Brittany proper, you may well wish to head for cities such as Lorient, Quiberon and Quimper.

Weather in Bangor, France

Visitors on their holidays in Bangor should be prepared for a mild temperate climate: one that is not too dissimilar to that of the west of Cornwall and even the Isles of Scilly. This means that snow is a real rarity on the island and temperatures are very mild throughout the year. During the summer, average values should regularly reach the low-twenties degrees Celsius. From December until February, averages are around 8 to 11 degrees. Being stuck out in the Atlantic Ocean, this means there is quite a high rainfall here: averaging over 42 inches per year.

Travel to Bangor, France

On your holidays in Bangor, you have the choice of either travelling by car or by plane to reach your destination. Those choosing to take their car will first cross the English Channel with Brittany Ferries, travelling from Plymouth to Roscoff, Portsmouth to St. Malo, or from Poole or Portsmouth to Cherbourg. They will then drive across Brittany to Quiberon, where there is a regular ferry crossing to Sauzon and La Palais. If you would prefer to fly then Rennes-St Jacques (RNS) is the nearest international airport. Flybe operates regular flights here from the UK, departing from Manchester (MAN), Southampton (SOU) and Exeter (EXT).

A really magical place to stay

5 of 5
We chose this place because we wanted to be in the middle of the fun and bustle of the port. The view from the sitting room over the harbour and out to sea is truly spectacular. Watching the boats come in and out was pure pleasure. It's so light and airy, and the windows are so big, that we didn't miss having an outdoor space. All the rooms felt much larger than they looked on the listing. Everything was in good order, clean and tasteful. The kitchen was well enough equipped for simple cooking. Good shower. Master bed wonderfully big and comfortable. You're seconds away from everything you could need in the town. We took our drinks down and sat on the harbour wall every evening ... We hired electric bikes and explored the island every day, parking them overnight back at the hire shop for safety. Obviously, being so central, this isn't the right place if you're looking for 100pct tranquillity - you are right in the middle of things. This worked for us, but might not for everybody. Communication was excellent with the owner, and the lady based on the island who manages the property was exceptionally warm and helpful.

Fantastic

The house is beautifully presented with a view of the sea and 300m away from the best swimming beach on the island (which itself is gorgeous).
