Make a holiday home, apartment, cottage, house or villa in Azille, France your home away from home

Azille is a medieval village of about 1000 inhabitants situated within the Aude department, near Carcassonne in the Languedoc-Rousillon region of Southern France. From its elevated position accommodation in Azille often benefits from wonderful views over the Minervois wine growing region in which the village sits. Though only small, Azille has a friendly and lively atmosphere and with plenty to see and do nearby. Hence self catering accommodation in Azille would be suitable for many different tastes.

Things to do on holiday in Azille, France

Azille is a lovely village with a friendly atmosphere. It has a boulangerie and grocery shop where you can stock up on provisions to fill the kitchen of your self catering accommodation! On the days when you’d rather sit back and relax, enjoy a meal in a restaurant or a drink or two in the village bar. The wine caves and vineyards in the area are great for visiting, and walking or cycling on the quiet roads is popular. Very close by to your Azille accommodation is a leisure lake where water sports are available and swimming can be enjoyed, or rent a boat or a pedaloe and go fishing! If you prefer the coast, this is within reach too, but Lac Jouarres is just as good, if not better! With the backdrop of the Black Mountain and the Pyrenees, the whole Azille area is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery if you prefer to do nothing at all.

Places to visit on holiday in Azille, France

In addition to enjoying the village’s wine caves where you can sample and buy some excellent wines, the village has a number of other places to visit. These include the historical Parish Church of Saint Julien and Saint Basil, the Pre-Romanesque church, and the Royal Abbey of Saint Claire, amongst other things. Just outside the village is Canal du Midi; a canal that was built in 1666 and is now a World Heritage Site.

Within about 20 miles (30km) of your Azille self catering accommodation is the town of Carcassonne. The most prominent attraction and landmark here is the spectacular fortress. Fully restored in the 1800’s this immense fortress has, understandably so, been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list. Other towns and cities within a day trip’s reach include Narbonne, Montpellier, and Toulouse.

The weather in Azille, France

When visiting self catering accommodation in Azille you can enjoy a Mediterranean climate. Typically the summers are hot and quite dry; great for all the wine and olive growing that’s done in the village and surrounds, and great for enjoying a swim! Spring and autumn are mild and pleasant, and though winters are generally mild, you can be assured that it never gets too cold otherwise the vines and olive trees would not survive.

Flights to Azille, France

Self catering accommodation in Azille is easy to get to as Carcassonne Salvaza Airport has recently started accepting flights from around Europe. Although still limited in number you can catch a flight to here with Ryanair from several airports in the UK and Europe. Alternatively there are a number of other airports all within a short distance including Beziers, Perpignan, and Montpellier.

Fantastic

5 of 5
Had a great trip and stay in Carcassone. The apartment is beautiful and literally in the centre of town. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you need and much more. All mod cons are included (washing machine, dish washer, freezer and smart uHD TV) and beautiful fully opening doors and a small balcony to enjoy the weather. The flat is a sun trap and it streams through all day. Martin really looks after you my trip was delayed due a strike but this wasn't an issue, he met me as promised and showed me around as well some great tips for eating out. There are lots of bars (the celt just opposite is friendly) and restaurants around and shops to fill the fridge with. The internet is speedy and easily accessiable. I have no hesitation recommending this place I'll be back. The only downside is the steps which I found ok but if you had mobility issues could be an issue. I'll be back thanks Andrea a joy to stay in your beautiful home, this was my first stay with Homeaway and if this is the standard I'll be using it again and again.

Our Wedding!!

5 of 5
We hosted our wedding at Le Vieux Relais over 3 days. Val and Mike were wonderful at catering for our needs and for our extended family. They organised a paella lunch, the wedding day it self and a big breakfast for the day after the wedding. Val was able to organise essentials such as a hairdresser and wedding cake. Thank you for making it a wonderful week.

Magical moments in La Petite Maison in Carcassonne

5 of 5
Despite some initial difficulties due to our late arrival, once we eventually got to La Petite Maison they were quickly forgotten. The photos do not lie. It is a delightful little house, as cosy and romantic as Shelley described it. Although we didn't use it, there is a lovely little terrace.Everything has been carefully thought out to make guests feel comfortable and at home, with an abundance of useful information from places to visit, how to get to them on foot and by other means it transport, as well as restaurant recommendations. The only criticism is no television, not from me, but by husband. However there was a lovely variety of CDs, and you can connect to the Internet to watch online movies, news etc.(Although secretly, I know my husband would have liked the option of television.) it is spotlessly clean and well maintained. The location is fantastic being right in the middle of Carcassonne. Shopping is practically on the doorstep, and places to visit within easy walking distance. Even parking is not a problem, as it is free from 6.00pm until 9.00am, and you can find places to park for free in the streets a bit further away, although we never needed to.
