Autignac is a small, unspoilt village, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It is tucked under the shadow of the Massif Central mountains to the north, and its villas, gites and holiday apartments for rent, set amongst the rolling vineyards, offer a fantastic welcome to visitors. As well as its easy-going relaxed charm, Autignac is known for its Faugère wine appellation - this part of Languedoc-Roussillon is famed for its fabulous wine growing conditions. Lying close to both the northern hills and forests, and the Mediterranean coast to the south, holidays in Autignac is an ideal location for anyone.

But your accommodation in Autignac can also serve as a base for a number of exciting and interesting activities across the Herault area. If you head north, you can take part in the drama of the Massif Central hills and mountain- cycling, hiking, horse-riding and canoeing are all catered for in the natural wilds of this region. But if you take a southerly route, the Mediterranean coast, and the pleasures of sun-bathing, dipping in the Med, and the strolling of the long sandy beaches can be yours.

This town also serves as a starting point for boating trips, along the Canal-du-Midi, which eventually leads out to the Atlantic. Close to Narbonne, in the marshes and lagoons, is a fascinating treat for kids and parents alike – a safari experience, the Sigean Safari Park. Elephants, lions, cheetahs and crocodiles have all made their home here in the south of France.

With Autignac lying so close to the Mediterranean, it is not surprising that the climate here is known for its hot, sunny and dry summers. The temperature in August and July can easily hit the low thirties degrees Celsius. Winters are mild and a little wetter, with temperatures slipping down to around 11°C. Fantastic Villa

5 of 5
The property was the best equipped luxury villa we have stayed at in almost 20 years of renting villas in France. There was a huge heated pool, solar powered shower by the pool, with pool toys for young kids. At least 6 outdoor tables and chairs - and some really smart rattan furniture on upper and lower terraces, with wonderful views of the hills to watch the sunset in the upper terrace and sip a glass or two. Large comfy lounge with all you could need - large dining suite -TV DVD CD books by the dozen etc. Great covered BBQ area and table beside. The kitchen had everything you could need - big table and great equipment too. Bedrooms comfy - plenty of wardrobes - great family bathroom - en suite on the main - another toilet and shower room in the pool suite - and another shower and toilet in the sports room. The sports room has a table tennis table - pool / snooker table football , air hockey, darts and another set of comfy chairs to play on the PlayStation with lots of games for the kids. It was truly superb and immaculately clean. We loved to walk to the village - 5 minutes away and buy some local produce from the shops - bakery and a few other friendly general stores. We also ate in the cafe at the square a few lunchtimes - good food and nice wine. We thought the directions to the house were excellent and sensibly advised us not to go through the village in the car on arrival as some streets are narrow and a challenge till you get used to them and the directions / route we followed were great and no hassle at all. Overall it is an exceptional villa and We would happily go back any time.

Perfect stay in a beautiful villa.

5 of 5
We stayed at this beautiful property for two weeks in August. I'm pleased to say that the reality is every bit as good as the photos and description. The property is perfect for two families. With two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and the same downstairs we had a feeling of space. The living areas were also very spacious, so we never felt like we were on top of each other. The kitchen is very well equipped, it's clear the owners have put a lot of thought into the small details that really make a villa holiday. Outside the property has a large pool area, outside kitchen, bbq area and yet even more space. The pool isn't heated so it took us a few days to get used to the temperature. Around the pool is artificial grass, this was great as we had two younger children so we weren't constantly worried about them falling over. (Make sure you have flip flops though, the grass can get very hot in the midday sun!) The covered area by the pool was well used by us, especially as we experienced some very hot days. We loved the fact that the plot was very spacious yet secure. We loved the proximity of the property to shops in the village. The morning stroll to the bakery took less than 10 mins. There are at least two bakeries - we preferred the one that is further away but you have to get there early to guarantee croissants and pan au chocolat, but they are worth getting up for! The village also has a Lidl, pharmacy and restaurant. Other bigger supermarkets are only a short drive away. We also found a small park for the children again this was only a short walk away. We loved the area, so many great places to explore. The owners provided suggestions of places to see. Our personal highlights were canoeing at Roquebrun, swimming in the river, Friday evening food and drink festival at Pezenas and wine tasting in the many, many wineries. (Our favourite was chateau coujan just up the road from the property). There were lots of other lovely places to see and things to do. The owners were very approachable and responsive to queries. They are very knowledgable on the area which was extremely helpful. Our one top tip...brush up on your French, you will need to use it! All in all, a fantastic holiday... we hope to return
