A good place to stay.
The hosts, Alain and Jeanette, were very accommodating. The gité has every thing you need and the meadow is great. Private, big and lots of trees for shade and we ere lucky enough to be there when the cherries on the monster tree were ripe. Huge walnut trees as well as grapes for when the season is right. The gité itself is very comfortable and having Alain and Jeanette available to ask about places to go was helpful.
The location is easy to access and within 400m of supermarket. La Charité sur Loire is a town worth a visit in itself. Old town and it even has a book fair every Sunday. From the gité it is easy to access the many treasures of the Loire as the motorway is right there.
We found that zooming off to visit places and then coming back through the backroads gave us a good look around.
The fast trains pass through the local station as well as a good local service.
We had a wonderful holiday in lovely surroundings. There were 6 of us including 2 young children. The gite/cottage is lovely with 3 large bedrooms upstairs, living/dining room, kitchen and shower room downstairs. We had full use of the whole garden and swimming pool - shared with the owners - Annie and Alex are lovely, warm people who were very welcoming.
The grandchildren loved the pool which can be open air or used in the rain with the cover over it. The pool area can be locked so is very safe and there are lots of inflatable toys for the pool. There are swings in the garden and toys and plenty of space for kids to play in. Everything was provide from towels, tea towels to washing up liquid and toilet rolls Free wifi is provided, there is a TV and board games in the cupboard. When we arrived there were 2 bottles of local wine in the fridge for us. Annie and Alex only speak a little English and we don't speak much French but we got by with Google Translate and sign language. Chaulgnes is a small village but there is a boulangerie and small supermarket. A big thank you to Annie and Alex
