Make an apartment in 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde your home away from home

Apartments in 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde are located in a coastal arrondissement of Marseille, a range of urban holiday accommodation to contrast with HomeAway's more rural selection across the rest of the Cote d'Azur. Marseille's history stretches back 2,600 years, and over that time it has functioned as France's main trading port. This has given the city an eclectic atmosphere, as the confluence of cultures evolved into a melting pot of cuisines, customs, and ideologies. Villas in 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde are very convenient for the cultural attractions of Marseille, especially the dominating Basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde, a huge neo-Byzantine church built on the highest natural point in Marseille – and recently meticulously and extensively restored.

6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde holiday accommodation is centred around an important bus and metro exchange, which makes for getting around Marseille easy. As might be expected from urban holiday apartments in 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde, fully equipped kitchens, laundry facilities, and internet access are the norms, and a few even have access to a pool and barbecue area. For those without a pool, however, the warm waters of the Mediterranean are usually no more than a short walk away.

Things to do

Beaches: There are a couple of beaches within a mile or two of 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde holiday rentals, which have great views of the city and access to facilities. Grander and quieter beaches can be found about 15 miles to the southeast.

Food and drink: As the capital of Provence, Marseille probably has the best access to its produce and cuisines, and the masses of restaurants run the gamut from affordable and homely to the exquisite and exclusive, with many dishes unique to the region, generally fusions of the various Mediterranean influences.

Outdoor pursuits: Being close by Vieux Port, sailing, fishing, scuba diving and boat-orientated activities are very popular. Of course, the hills and mountains of Provence beckon from the city limits, where much fantastic hiking, biking and horse trekking can be found.

Shopping: In addition to the elevated level of shopping one finds in a major metropolitan city, there's a local products and artisan market held every Thursday and Friday in June and the first two weeks in September, and every day during July and August. It's located in the newly pedestrianised Old Port right by the 6th District.

Culture: Marseilles has 24 museums and 42 theatres, which is more than enough to satisfy even the most dedicated cultural enthusiast. This includes the magnificent Opera des Marseille. Also check out the Prefecture, the fountain of Place Castellane, and of course the district's namesake, the Basilica Notre-Dame de la Garde.

Weather in 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde

The Mediterranean climate, moderated by the proximity of the sea and the opposing north and south winds, known as the Mistral and the Scirocco, supplies typical maximum summer temperatures of around 28-29°C. Most of the precipitation occurs during the autumn, and mild and often pleasant winters and springs mean Marseille can easily be thought of as a year-round destination.

Travel to 6th - Notre-Dame de la Garde

Marseille has its own airport around 15 miles northwest of the 6th District, which itself sits on a major bus and metro interchange. Thus this central location is perfect for getting about the city efficiently. Marseille is also fairly reachable by car and train from the south of England, with a road trip taking a couple of days, and a train around nine hours.

Beautiful well equipped apartment in great location

5 of 5
This is a great apartment and is just as the photos show. It it equipped and maintained to a very high standard and has everything you need for a great holiday. We had a wonderful week here. The location is ten to fifteen minutes walk from the old port.Within a minute or two of the apartment are all the shops you need - bakers , greengrocers, pharmacy and cheese shop to mention just a few - plus a couple of well stocked small supermarkets and small cafes. Oh and a fantastic pizza shop with a wood fired oven! Two bus routes are very close by and the Marseille buses are so easy to use.The view is fantastic and the main terrace has shade at the hottest part of the day and a good selection of seating. The small balcony to the rear is also a quiet retreat. This was our first time in the city and we found it to be a very safe place to stay.despite some reports. There are endless things to do, see and visit. We highly recommend the apartment. Everything is provided from a plentiful supply of towels to extra bedding - condiments to dishwasher tablets (so useful when you have travelled a long way)- coffee machine with capsules and a chilled bottle of rose wine to welcome us. Thierry and Sophie have realty set up this apartment beautifully - thank you both for a great stay

Excellent standard, very good location

5 of 5
The apartment is very conveniently located for buses, the tram and the tube (10 minutes from the main railway station). It is very clean, well equipped, comfortable and secure. We were met and shown around and had a contact number should anything go awry. We had a lovely few days in Marseille and if round that way again would certainly use this apartment again.
