Make a holiday rental house or apartment in Montmartre, Paris your home away from home

Set on a hill near the centre of Paris, Montmartre provides an elegant viewpoint over the city of Paris. Many people who have visited Paris will have seen the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur from afar, sitting regally on the summit of the Montmartre hill, proudly overlooking the whole area. It is the greenest sector of Paris, and you can still have a cup of coffee under the shade of a tree or visit one of the last remaining windmills in the Paris area.

Things to do on holiday in Montmartre, Paris

When you first arrive in Montmartre, a quick tour of the Basilica de Sacre Coeur is an essential activity. The white 19th century Catholic hub dominated the Parisian skyline, from its vantage point on the highest peak in the area. There are some wonderfully secluded little spots around the Basilica, which you certainly won’t expect as you walk up the tourist packed cobbled streets on the way up towards it.

There has always been a rich artistic heritage in Montmartre. Artists like Monet, Picasso and Van Gogh all spent time enjoying the bohemian lifestyle of Montmartre, and there are still a huge number of artists in the streets around the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur. You can get a portrait done with ease, and art lovers will undoubtedly be attracted by the Espace Dali, the largest permanent Dali exhibition outside of Barcelona.

The Montmartre Moulin Rouge cabaret, brought to infamy by the 2001 film, is a magnificent place to spend an evening away from your Montmartre apartment. You can have a terribly chic evening meal, whilst girls perform the French cancan adorned in feather boas, glistening rubies and flashing sequins.

Places to visit on holiday in Montmartre, Paris

If you are staying in Montmartre accommodation for any length of time, it would be mad not to take the very short trip into central Paris. All the hundreds of famous landmarks, restaurants and shopping streets of Paris are just a short ride away, and you can easily explore the city, catch a theatrical performance or indeed any evening event and be back at your self catering Montmartre holiday home in time for an evening meal.

Weather in Montmartre, Paris

In the summer months, temperatures average just under 19°C, which last from May until September. In the winter months, temperatures average between 8°C and 10°C, which is surprisingly pleasant. It is also a surprisingly dry region, with an average of only 7 rainy days per month during the winter.

Travel to Montmartre, Paris

A holiday rental property in Montmartre, Paris, is just 20km from Paris-Orly Airport (ORY). The airport is very well connected to the UK by services provided by ThomsonFly and AirFrance.

Great Paris Apartment. Fantastic location.

5 of 5
We where three adults and stayed for three nights. Enough room for all of us. Loved the location and found it easily. Neat and tidy. There are lots of stairs up to the apartment which might be difficult if you have young children or unfit.

Lovely apartment in great neighborhood!

5 of 5
This apartment was lovely and we enjoyed returning there at the end of each day. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was modern and offered a tub/shower combo. The toilet is in a separate space. Kitchen is narrow but very user friendly with modern appliances and plenty of cookware and dishes. The manager provided excellent service. A helpful booklet, along with a charming welcome basket including things like wine, paté, chocolate, tea and coffee awaited us in the kitchen, and she took the time to walk through the amenities with us when we arrived. She thoughtfully provided everything a guest could want in the apartment: a well equipped kitchen including an espresso maker (that saw much use!), a washer and dryer, dishwasher, rolling basket for marketing, drying rack and wicker laundry baskets, umbrellas, hairdryer, even a step stool! The location was perfect, with plenty of wonderful markets nearby for fruits and vegetables, pastries and baked goods, cheeses, etc. Good restaurants and Métro stops were all a short walk from the front door and getting to the center of Paris is quick and painless. Though a short walk from the Sacre Coeur area, this is a real neighborhood and isn't crammed with tourists. Though there were only two of us, the apartment could easily accommodate four, and if necessary, another could sleep on the pull out sofa, though that cramps the common area of the apartment, which is where the small dining table is. My only complaint is quite small -- there wasn't a nightstand close to the bed in the second bedroom, so I used the covered wicker laundry basket for that purpose, which worked out fine. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or any of the other apartments managed by Feels Like Home in Paris. They know what they are doing.
