Make a holiday cottage, apartment or villa in Europe your home away from home

Beachside or rural; mountains or cities – wherever you want to stay HomeAway will help you track down your ideal Europe holiday rental. It’s a part of the world that packs in a wealth of different climates and landscapes, as well as some of the world’s most important cities and most luxurious beach destinations. The selection of rentals is staggering, but you’ll be able to narrow your choices down according to accommodation-types, like chalets, cottages, villas and apartments and holiday homes in Europe. What’s more you can define the facilities and options that will make your holiday at an apartment in Europe extra comfortable and convenient – whether it’s pet-friendly owners and parking included, or modern essentials like internet and air-conditioning.

Things to do while staying in a European holiday rental

-Culture. Western culture was born here, so it follows that Europe should have abundant heritage, much of it impeccably preserved. There are more than four hundred UNESCO World Heritage Sites on this continent, including prehistory and the vestiges of Ancient Greece and Rome, through all eras - Byzantine times, medieval, the Renaissance and much more.

-Beaches. All countries are members of the Blue Flag organisation, which provides a international standard for beaches according to their cleanliness and services. There are more than 3,000 Blue Flag beaches of all varieties across the continent, in Mediterranean countries like Greece, Spain and Italy, but also on the Baltic, North Sea and Atlantic.

-Food and drink. Europe’s food and drink is anything but homogenous, with regional and local cheeses and wines protected in places by the EU and set to thrive into the future. The most popular cuisines have spread throughout the world - think haute-cuisine from France, tapas from Spain, pasta from Italy; the list goes on.

-Outdoor recreation. Europe boasts more than 350 national parks, many of which protect internationally renowned natural landmarks like volcanoes, mountain peaks, lakes and gorges. Hikers and cyclists are well catered for, with well-marked and maintained systems of trails. In winter skiing is available in all mountainous regions, but especially popular in the Alps, which span much of Central Europe.

-Family attractions. Iconic buildings and sights, both modern and historic, abound across Europe. Major cities also feature some of the world’s most prestigious museums, while there are a scattering of state of the art theme parks – Europa-Park in Germany, Disneyland Paris in France and PortAventura in Spain.

Weather in Europe

There are a range of climate systems across the continent, thanks to the huge variety of latitudes, topographies and proximities to oceans and seas. Visiting the Mediterranean region you’ll encounter warm, dry conditions in summer and mild winters. In the north and northwest there are temperate conditions, influenced by the Gulf Stream, while central and eastern Europe gets a continental climate of warm summers and cold winters. Mountainous areas have their own systems, like the Alps, which are cold and snowy in winter, and mostly mild and humid in summer.

Travel to Europe

There are a number of networks and international agreements that make road travel between European countries easier. For instance, the Schengen Agreement brought an end to border controls between participating countries. Interail and Eurail passes also allow visitors to travel with convenience on trains over large distances. Many countries also have high-speed lines, such as the TGV in France. It should be easy to reach your Europe holiday apartment by plane. Western and Central Europe has its main air travel hubs at Frankfurt (FRA), Paris (CDG), Amsterdam (AMS), Madrid (MAD) and London Heathrow (LHR), but almost every popular destination in every country is close to an international airport.

Lovely apartment, convenient for St Ives and Carbis Bay

5 of 5
The Garden Apartment is very clean and nicely kitted out. Nice little private garden with a table and two chairs, room to have a small barbecue, washing line to dry towels or wetsuits. Nice modern decor. Jimmy and Dee are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Parking on site is a great bonus, as is Tesco a couple of minutes walk away and a local pub even closer than that serving lovely food. The apartment is approx 20 minutes walk into the centre of St Ives and a bit closer than that to Carbis Bay. It’s uphill all the way back but nothing too strenuous and there’s always the buses if not feeling up to the walk. The location is ideal if you want to be close enough to access everything on foot but far enough away that it’s quiet back at the apartment. St Ives itself is beautiful, lots of clean sandy beaches and clear blue seas and not too crowded. Good shopping too. Can highly recommend the buses as a way to get out and see more of Cornwall, unlimited travel tickets are great value when compared to parking charges, and save the hassle of squeezing down Cornwall’s narrow roads - which itself is great entertainment on an open topped bus! Can highly recommend St Ives and this apartment in particular.

A perfect stay and great location for visiting the Peaks and surrounding attractions. A really relaxing break away from it all but with a great pub just up the road! Thoroughly recommended! Just booked to go back 😊.
