Make a Holiday Rental Villa in Luxor, Egypt Your Home Away From Home

Situated on the banks of the River Nile in Egypt is the ancient city of Luxor. Known as Thebes in ancient times, Luxor is a bustling and vibrant city, full of history and culture. If you are looking for a holiday where you can see lots of ruins, artefacts, places of historical importance in Egypt and spectacular views of The Nile, then a Luxor rental villa is the perfect choice for you.

Things to Do on Holiday to Luxor, Egypt

There is so much to see and do in the city that it is likely you won’t be able to fit it all in during your Luxor holiday! It is an opportunity to have a completely unique holiday with a range of activities on your doorstep. As well as activities such as golf, tennis and bird watching, visitors can enjoy seeing Luxor from a different perspective by way of a hot-air balloon ride. Camel rides, mountain biking and felucca trips along the River Nile are also popular activities to be found in Luxor.

Approximately 20 kilometres outside of the city is the famous Valleys of Kings and Valley of Queens. In these areas you can see the tombs favoured by Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, many with stunning wall paintings and hieroglyphs. The most famous Pharaoh known in the West, Tutankhamun, had his tomb here and many of the artefacts found by Howard Carter can be seen in the Egyptian Antiquities Museum.

The Valley of The Queens is home to the tomb of Queen Nefertari, which is one of the largest tombs open to the public. Other historical sites not to be missed include The Temple of Luxor, Hatshepsut’s temple and Deir el-Medina, the village of the artisans who worked on the pyramids.

Places to Visit on Holiday to Luxor, Egypt

Approximately 50 kilometres to the south of Luxor is the ancient city of Edfu. The most prominent attraction in the city is The Temple of Edfu, which is the second largest in the whole of Egypt. The temple is dedicated to the sun God Horus and is very well preserved. The temple is fascinating due to the large inscriptions on the outside walls that tell the story of how the temple was built. The reliefs in what was the inner courtyard are also worth a look.

To the west of The Temple of Horus in Edfu are large piles of rubble which indicate the location of the ancient city of Tell Edfu, from which archaeologists have found artefacts dating back to the period of the Old Kingdom.

Weather in Luxor, Egypt

If you are looking to have a Luxor holiday then the weather is not going to disappoint – the city is hot, hot, hot! Average daytime temperatures in summer can reach as high as 41°C. Even during the winter months of December and January the average daytime temperature rarely falls below 23°C. Some say that it never rains in Luxor and thanks to the mainly desert climate, this is mostly true. If it does rain it is very infrequently, with heavy bursts of rain that quickly dry up in the heat.

What a amazing experience!!

5 of 5
Our family of 5 have had a wonderful stay in this most gloriously designed and well facilitated property. Riverbank is a subtle icon in its own right, located right on the bank of the Nile (opposite King Farook's Winter Palace and the Ancient Luxor Temple itself). The views from the roof terrace and the first floor of the Nile are wonderful, we spent most mornings from 5am onwards watching the sun rise, the early fishermen in their little rowboats and the hot air balloons rising above this calm arterial river. Turn around to look to the rear of The Riverbank and you see the stunning views of the desert mountains, Valley of the Queens, the village, the banana plantations. So much greenery met by the dry desert mountains in the distance. Really Stunning! Everything was perfect during our 4 week stay, I realise that this is a 'statement' but Khyry who takes care of the guests was waiting at Luxor airport with an a/c vehicle and a meal waiting for us at the villa. Khyry understands hospitality, but he offers this naturally and genuinely. He is now a friend, whom I would l hope to keep in touch with. Highly recommended are the optional meals that were offered to us purely as an additional service for our convenience. Mehmood is an excellent chef with lots of experience and culinary ideas and Saeed his assistant was always on the ready to help, accommodating in every way. Overall a great trip in a great villa which is superbly placed to explore Luxor and enjoy its greatest asset the Nile. Oh and I can't forget the new swimming pool in its own grounds and facilities also the local stables for very affordable horse riding. The Dahabiyah cruise, which is also available is out of this world, tranquil, mystical sailing from Luxor to Aswan with historic temple and site stops at Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Silsila Island ending in Aswan. I could go on.... :-) Thank you Christopher, Pamela, Khyry and his team.
