Things to do
-Food and drink: While there are a number of great eateries all over Lolland where residents of Nysted Region self-catering holiday rentals can get a bite, tourists should make a point of having a meal at Fjorden. It is situated in the town of Nakskov, near Hestehovedet, a popular beach. Closer to their holiday homes they will find the Restaurant Rogeriet which is on the Nysted Harbour, right beside the sea. It is the go-to eatery for fresh fish in Lolland.
-Museums: Not far from Nysted is the magnificent Fuglsang Art Museum, a beautifully designed building officially opened just five years ago but which contains a robust collection of works dating back to the 18th century. Apart from its permanent art display, there are always exciting special exhibitions. After getting mesmerised by the works of past and present day canvas magicians, visitors can relax with their favourite beverage at the cafe. In Nakskov is the Sugar Museum, a place visitors can see first-hand the sugar-making process.
-Ancient buildings: Lolland houses a number of impressive architectural pieces from the past, a stunning example of which is the Aalholm Castle. Standing proudly on a small island in the Nysted Fjord, it’s hard to believe that this magnificent structure is over 800 years old. In fact the Aalholm Slot, as it is known by locals, is said to be Denmark’s oldest castle. This is one of the nearby attractions to Nysted Region holiday homes
-Wildlife: A trip to Lolland comes with a wonderful surprise in the town of Maribo; the Knuthenborg Safari Park. This is a chance for holidaymakers to get incredible photos of the beasts that roam Africa’s jungles while in northern Europe. Among the over 1,000 animals housed in this 500-hectare facility are lions, rhinos, zebra, wolves and tigers. The kids will absolutely love the prospect of getting up close with these animals and being able to touch some of them.
