North Zealand is a beautiful place to enjoy a holiday in Denmark, with its scenic landscapes, beautiful golden sand coastline, lakes and magnificent castles. Just across the Sound is the coastline of Sweden and Helsingborg is just a short ferry ride away. This slow paced, less populated area north of Copenhagen is where the Queen of Denmark chooses to spend her vacation. For historians there are a wealth of Viking remains and for modern day explorers a visit to the home of Knud Rasmussen is a must.
A visit to the beach is a pleasurably treat from your North Zealand holiday home rental. If the sun is shining, the locals may well be getting an all-over tan. The blue flag waters are pretty cold for swimming but on cooler days a walk along the seashore can be exhilarating. Take a boat trip to one of the nearby harbour towns or take the ferry to Helsingborg for a day in Sweden. The scenic countryside and the pleasant temperatures are usually ideal for hiking and cycling around the small waterfront villages, drinking in the pretty sights and stopping for refreshments wherever the fancy takes you.
Helsingor is a lively town in North Zealand where Kronborg Castle, the famous setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet, can be visited. Rungsted is a charming small town, best known as the setting for Karen Blixen’s short stories with a museum to her memory. On a different plane completely is the outstanding Modern Art Gallery of Louisiana which can be found along the coast at Humlebaek. Roskilde is the old capital city of Denmark and consequently has some interesting architecture and places to visit. The Cathedral at Roskilde is the resting place of Danish royalty and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The wonderful Viking Ship Museum is another real treat for visitors to linger over. Roskilde and neighbouring Isefjord are in fjord country where busy local harbours abound. Just west of Humlebaek is Fredensborg where in July visitors can tour the newly opened royal summer palace.
Summer temperatures in North Zealand can reach an average of 22°C (72°F) in July with the chance of some showers. Winters are very cold with several months of daytime temperatures which are barely above freezing. The winter also has the most precipitation which falls as snow even along the coast of North Zealand.
The nearest international airport to your North Zealand holiday rental is Copenhagen Lufthavn (CPH) Airport which is located at Amager. From here visitors can pick up a hire car or catch the train to North Zealand, about 60km north of the city.
