Helsingor is a lively town in North Zealand where Kronborg Castle, the famous setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet, can be visited. Rungsted is a charming small town, best known as the setting for Karen Blixen’s short stories with a museum to her memory. On a different plane completely is the outstanding Modern Art Gallery of Louisiana which can be found along the coast at Humlebaek. Roskilde is the old capital city of Denmark and consequently has some interesting architecture and places to visit. The Cathedral at Roskilde is the resting place of Danish royalty and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The wonderful Viking Ship Museum is another real treat for visitors to linger over. Roskilde and neighbouring Isefjord are in fjord country where busy local harbours abound. Just west of Humlebaek is Fredensborg where in July visitors can tour the newly opened royal summer palace.
