Things to do

-Old Town sights. Top of the list for many visitors to Prague, the Old Town is a UNESCO site and contains landmarks like the Astronomical Clock, which dates to 1410. Crossing the Vltava from the Old Town is the iconic Charles Bridge, which was completed in the early 15th Century and, at half a kilometre in length, stands as one of Europe’s most important pieces of engineering and architecture.

-Prague Castle. Officially the largest castle in the world, this sight is a large complex of palaces, gardens, churches and halls. It’s loaded with historical importance, having accommodated generations of Bohemian Kings, Holy Roman Emperors, and, more recently Czech and Czechoslovak presidents. One of many fantastic sights here is the 10th Century Basilica of St George, which is an impressive piece of Romanesque architecture.

-Museums. With several branches around the city, the National Gallery is Prague’s premier art attraction. Possibly the most important collection is displayed at Sternberg Palace, which covers the period from medieval to baroque and boasts masterpieces by feted artists like El Greco, Rubens and Tintoretto. There are plenty of smaller museums well worth discovering, like the Kafka Museum, housed in the author’s former home, and the military museum, devoted to Czech involvement in the two world wars.

-Vysehrad. Located on the right bank of the Vltava, a little way south of the Old Town is this historic fort dating to the 900s. It was the seat of power in the city until Prague Castle was constructed and much of its historical interest is still present. There’s the beautiful St Peter and St Paul Basilica, as well as the Rotunda of St Martin, which is the oldest building in the entire city. From the walls of Vysehrad you can take in impressive views of the river and Prague castle to the north.

-Beer culture In the city where Pilsner was invented, beer has been brewed in Prague for about 1,000 years and is an important part of its heritage. Real connoisseurs could try unpasteurised beer – essentially beer at its freshest, straight from the tank, served at increasingly popular establishments called Tanknovas. In the Old Town you can visit the Prague Beer Museum, the perfect place to try brews that are off the maps of most foreigners.

Summers are moderately warm, with maximum temperatures ranging between the low and high-20s and generally more hours of sunshine than any other season. Travel to Prague 2 - Vinohrady

Prague has plenty of transport connections – you can get to your holiday rental in Prague 2 – Vinohrady from abroad by bus, train and air. Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) is around half an hour from this district by road, and sits just to the west of the city. The airport is well served by routes from across the UK via numerous airlines. There are direct bus services from the UK to the station at Florenc, a little way north of Vinohrady. Prague is also reachable from European cities like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin and Zürich via direct trains.

A fabulous oasis in Prague

This is a hidden gem in busy Prague. Situated conveniently in a funky, friendly suburb close to the city centre, it is beautifully presented and immaculately clean. Spacious and light, it is the perfect place to return after a day in the city. There is a large, comfortable living area, well equipped kitchen that includes a wonderful coffee machine and spacious bedroom. The modern bathroom includes a washing machine. One of the unexpected pleasures was the small balcony that presented a view over the adjacent roofs toward the old city. This was a great place to sip a coffee or glass of wine at the end of the day. We were impressed and grateful for the communication and advice received fro Rob and Pavel. We highly recommend this apartment and would be delighted to stay there again.
