Make a holiday rental home or accommodation in Split, Croatia your home away from home

Split is Croatia’s second largest city, located on the rugged Aegean Coast. The ancient and diverse history of Split makes the city an absolute joy to explore, and if you only have a day to sightsee before the possibilities of Split grab your attention, many of the most important attractions in Split are located together inside the walls of the magnificent Diocletian Palace. Split is one of Europe’s liveliest and most elegant cities, set between the gentle waters of the Adriatic and the soaring mountains of the Croatian mainland.

Things to do in Split, Croatia

Split has had a remarkable history, originally a Greek settlement, the city was then in Roman hands, during which period many of the most remarkable monuments, including the Diocletian Palace, were build. There is a vast amount to see in Split, whose old town is an amazing mix of Roman, Venetian, Austrian, French and Yugoslavian influences. Of all the many treasures to explore in Split, the stunning Diocletian Palace is certainly the most impressive, and well worth exploration from any Split accommodation. The Cathedral and architecture of People’s Square, (Narodni Trg), certainly shouldn’t be missed either. Those wishing to get a little more accustomed with the extraordinary history and culture of Split should head to the Museum of Croatia, Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments, the Maritime Museum and/or the Mestrovic Gallery.

Evenings are always a joy in Split. The locals, or Splicani, are great fun, and have an unquenchable thirst for enjoyment. Fine food and drink, jubilant singing and dancing and a warm welcome are all but guaranteed during the evenings in Split, and there are more restaurants, bars and clubs than you could possibly visit in a single Split holiday. The Split Festival (Summer in Split) is a wonderful cultural celebration in July and August, when the whole of the ancient centre is taken over for concerts, street theatre, opera, exhibitions and dancing. Summer in Split represents a magnificent time to be staying in Split accommodation, but throughout the summer, the city hosts a great range of events, festivals and celebrations, so you are never too far from a party in a self catering Split holiday rental!

If the weather is right, the town beach is a fantastic place to be. Although modest by some beach resort’s standards, the beach is still a welcome break from the heat, with soft sand and clear waters aplenty. The most popular beach in Split, Bacvice is centrally located, and is always popular with locals, although not usually too crowded.

Lovely location and property

5 of 5
The only downside was the taxi driver didn't understand where exactly the address was so it left me in a panic for a short time until we were finally greeted. Lovely hosts and ever so accommodating. the location was fantastic and close to all the sights and places we wished to visit. thank you.

Lovingly restored apartment, in a wonderful location

5 of 5
We spent two weeks in this lovely apartment in October 2017. The apartment was very comfortable and fully equipped. The owner (Daniel) and his family have furnished the apartment to a high standard and we really enjoyed our stay. When we were there, there was building work being undertaken in the apartment below, with very loud and disruptive noise. I contacted Daniel via email and he organised via the local hosts, Ivana and Ante, for the building work to commence at 10am, even though the building below does not belong to him. There was another issue with a very loud couple, who were shouting and letting their dogs bark for long periods of time, in the ground floor apartment. I contacted Daniel and he organised for the hosts to speak with them. Daniel, Ante and Ivana were very kind and responsive and will do everything they can to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The location is very central to the Diocletian's Palace, the Port and beaches and we enjoyed trips to Trogir, Brac and Stobrec. We loved walking up the Marjan Steps most mornings to sit at the cafe and to look out at the spectacular views, whilst having our morning coffee. There are some lovely walks through the Marjan Park, and the views over the coast line are truly breathtaking. As it was October, it was very quiet and there are many little coves, beach areas, which you could more or less have to your-self. The sea is crystal clear as most beaches are made of small pebbles. We bought tickets to watch Hayduk Split play Dinamo Zagreb and it was quite an experience. Everyone we met in Split was friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful holiday, and were blessed with sunny days and blue skies for 12 out of 14 days. We would recommend this lovely apartment and hope if you book it, you enjoy your holiday as much as we did. Thank you Daniel, Ivana and Ante.
