Things to do
-Beaches. All locations along Ugljan’s 20 kilometre shoreline can be reached from Preko. The most popular sandy beach on the island can be found at Mostir, ideal for children and offering a range of beachfront activities. There are also a host of smaller coves, like Cinta and Luka, with sheltered waters that are perfect for swimming.
-Zadar. Preko-Poljana is essentially a suburb of this city, despite being separated by a channel. You could catch the ferry to see more of Zadar, which is known for its preserved Roman history, including a fine example of a forum. You can also find a number of medieval churches here – 34 to be precise.
-Diving. The island of Ugljan has its own diving centre, so you won’t need to get on a ferry back to the mainland. It offers full equipment hire and excursions to eight locations around the coast of the island. Experiences provided include wreck dives, night dives and special, in-depth looks at Ugljan’s marine biology.
-Cycling. Ugljan has picturesque and unspoiled landscapes that are ideal for exploring by bike. Five clear trails have been established, each varying in length and offering a slightly different challenge, from light to heavy. The longest and most difficult is a mountain path 29 kilometres in length, but affording unforgettable coastal views along the way.
-Day trips. For those who don’t mind travelling, there are some truly beautiful places sitting within an hour or two of Preko. The Krka National Park on the mainland boasts numerous waterfalls, the best example of which can be seen at Skradinski Buk. Closer, and accessible by boat, is the Kornati National park, preserving an impressive expanse of coastal scenery.
