Make a holiday home in Postira your home away from home

This is a town on the northern coast of the Dalmatian island of Brac. It is really a slow paced traditional village whose inhabitants are mainly fishermen and farmers. The laid back atmosphere makes Postira the perfect place for tourists to seek holiday accommodation as they enjoy the delights of Brac and other attractions on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast. This area is known for its sublime beaches and the opportunities for scuba diving and other water sports. After a day of excitement and leisure, visitors can retreat to the luxurious holiday homes and apartments offered by HomeAway. Also on offer are spacious holiday villas, most of which are not far from the sea. These holiday rentals come with facilities that will make guests feel fully at home including WiFi Internet and barbecues.

Things to do

-Beaches: The horn shaped beach of Zlatni Rat is one of Brac’s key attractions and every summer this stretch of golden beach is flooded with visitors from far and wide eager to sunbathe. This beach is characterised by crystal clear waters and pebbles rather than sand. Not to worry, there are plenty of lounging chairs on which holidaymakers can lounge and soak up the rays. Beach mats can also be purchased from nearby shops. Postira itself boasts an excellent sandy beach called Lovrecina.

-Water sports: Parents can let their kids enjoy the waters of the Adriatic as they are calm most of the time. Visitors will want to go snorkelling as the waters are exceptionally clear. The winds in this locale are great for wind and kite surfing and holidaymakers who are novices can get lessons from surrounding schools. Snorkelling and scuba diving gear can be easily secured as well.

-Food and drink: Like the rest of Croatia the island of Brac has its share of great restaurants and ‘konoba’ where those staying in Postira holiday homes can dig into authentic Croat cuisine. At the Konoba Kopacina they can savour pork chops, roast lamb and other specialities prepared in the traditional way helped down with traditional wine.

-Olive oil: One of the key economic activities in this locale is the production of olive oil. There are said to be over half a million trees on the island of Brac sprouting a rare kind of olive called buhavica. Postira is also known for wine production.

-Monuments: A visit to the nearby town of Supetar is highly recommended for visitors putting up in Postira holiday homes as it has a couple of noteworthy attractions. The parish church of St. Peter or Sveti Petar is of medieval origins and showcases intriguing baroque patterns. Inside the building are 18th century paintings by a local artist.

Weather in Postira

Postira exhibits classic Mediterranean weather with warm temperatures for most of the year broken only by a mild winter. Temperatures rise above the 20°C mark as early as May and do not drop until November when winter begins. The majority of the occupants of Postira holiday homes arrive between June and August when temperatures range between 26 and 30°C. This is the height of summer and virtually no rainfall is seen during this time. In October however, rainfall averages of 80mm are usually recorded.

Travel to Postira

The closest airport to Postira is the Bol Airport which is on the island of Brac. This is a relatively small airport which receives mainly charter traffic from selected European cities. Most visitors to the Dalmatian coast however arrive through the Split Airport. Known locally as Resnik Airport, this facility is the country’s third largest. It is the gateway through which summer holidaymakers from London, Geneva, Munich and other European localities arrive into the Split-Dalmatia county. Split Airport is just about 20 miles from Postira and visitors will have to travel the distance by boat or ferry.

Beachfront paradise with olive and fig trees

5 of 5
We had a great relaxing 2 nights stay in this lovely beach house. The room had a nice interior and a lovely terrace with great views of the ocean during the day and the stars at night, and we were greeted with a lovely welcome drink. The location is perfect for a relaxing stay, it''s a 15m walk down to the sandy beach and 100m to the nice restaurant :) Right next the house you can find ruins of early Christian basilica from the 5th-6th century. It was amazing place!

Wonderful location and immaculate apartment

5 of 5
This is a wonderful apartment in a great location for us (only a short steep hill to get into Postira yet benefitting from great views because we were quite high up). The apartment was lovely and spacious (just like the photos show) and if you like a small, popular but not crowded, village style resort then I would definitely recommend here. We hired a car for a day to see more of the island and we all agreed we'd love to return to Croatia and would want to stay in the same apartment and village but would probably hire a car for an extra day or two as there's lots more to see and do on the island. If I was being picky it would have been lovely to receive some kind of welcome letter and pack in the apartment as an added touch, otherwise we loved it!
