Things to do

-Beaches. The beaches here are mostly sandy, and famous for their shallow and clear waters. One of the best nearby is Ninska Laguna, a stretch of sand in the shadow of Mount Velebit, considered ideal for families with younger children. As the water is shallow the sea temperature here is two or three degrees higher than in the open Adriatic.

-Local history. Nin is a town with fascinating history. It dates to the 9th Century BC and has remnants from its later Roman period, including villas with intact mosaics, and a temple. In medieval times it was the seat of Croatian power. An essential sight is the pre-Romanesque Church of the Holy Cross, from the 800s.

-Nature. Velebit, Croatia’s largest mountain range, is little more than half an hour east of Nin. It’s home to a wealth of unusual karst formations, and in total offers more than a thousand kilometres of forest trails. It’s also preserved as a national park and boasts an abundance of rare animals and plants.

-Zadar. A great choice for a day out would be this attractive city a few minutes to the south. It’s rich with medieval history, including more than 30 well-preserved churches. Perhaps most impressive is St. Donat’s, considered one of the best examples of pre-Romanesque architecture in the world. There’s also an impressive Roman forum in Zadar.

-Day trips. At Nin you’ll be in a great location to see a little more of the surrounding region. The Krka National Park is within an hour to the south, and features some truly magnificent natural landscapes, including Stradinski buk, a large natural pool fed by a number of landscapes.

Weather in Nin

Beach apartments in Nin are in a Mediterranean climate zone. This means that you can expect warm weather between May and October. Maximum temperatures rise from 25 degrees at the start of the summer to the low-30 in July and August. There’s very little rain until later on in the season. Winters in Nin are normally mild, with highs in the low-teens and temperatures only occasionally dipping below freezing at night. Spring conditions are moderately warm and increasingly drier as summer approaches.

Travel to Nin

Nin holiday homes can be reached from abroad via Zadar Airport (ZAD), which lies around 18 kilometres to the south from the town. There are seasonal flights to this destination with a number of low-cost airlines from airports across the UK and other parts of Europe. You can get to and from the airport by bus, with the journey taking around half an hour. Another way to reach Zadar is by ferry, with regular services to and from Ancona in Italy.

Ideal location for exploring Nin and surrounding areas

4 of 5
Only a short journey from Zadar airport and easy to find with Google maps. The accomodation was very clean and well presented with nice 'arty' pieces here and there. Kitchen was well stocked with most things although it did lack an electric kettle and a conventional toaster. The lounge area was fine although there is just the one sofa which all four of us did manage to sit on in the evenings. All three bedrooms were very comfortable. The balcony space is great with a good sized table with chairs, dryer with pegs and catches the sun all day. The pool area space has sun beds and a rattan effect sofa and chairs set. We didn't use the pool as it was too cold, even for my son! Neither did we use the games room, which looked nice or the sauna. Ivan and his wife were very friendly and always around if there was a problem or you needed a question asked. We parked our car in their olive tree garden, attached to the property. It's a shame there isn't a guide book or folder of leaflets etc as we had no idea what was nearby but a simple google and trip advisor session helped. Nin is very nice and the square is only a 5 minute stroll away. Make sure you go over the bridge and walk around the 'island' as its lovely and there are loads of restaurants/cafes and bars. Queens beach is only a 10 minute walk around the harbour/lagoon and over the headland. We visited old Zadar and had a day at Krka national park, both worth it! We ran most days and found a nice place called Zaton, litterally up the road. A great place to walk and swim, although not much else was open. (October half term) This was our forst time to Croatia and we really enjoyed it. We took euros with us but they prefer you use their currency, the kuna. We'd only take kunas with us if we go again.

This is an absolute gem. It is a newly converted traditional stone building updated to the highest standards. A great location with easy access to type airport. Lada, the owner, was also very helpful. I would recommend this property and a stay in Nin/Zadar area
