Make a holiday rental, home or villa in Croatia your home away from home

Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

Dalmatia is the eastern Croatian region of the Adriatic Sea, which at only 50km across at its widest part has a disproportionate amount of coast. Dalmatian Coast holiday rentals are all within a short distance of the coves, secluded beaches, islands and inlets of the coast. Because of the rugged coast and numerous islands of all sizes and topographies, sailing is a large business in this part of Croatia. The coast is known for its warm sea, consistent sailing winds, and beautiful wooded islands.

Places to holiday on the Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

The cities of Zadar, Sibenik, Split and Dubrovnik are stunning, timeless medieval cities, with fishing boats bobbing in their marinas or out on the blue waters of the Adriatic.

The national parks of Paklenica Karst River, Korati Archipelago, and the Mljet Island within an island are all fabulous tourist attractions, showing the remarkable natural landscape and allowing it to be explored without damage.

Dubrovnik, the Adriatic’s ‘Crown Jewel’ is a magnificent ancient walled coastal town, with wide marble boulevards, 15th century fountains, 12th century monasteries and Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque structures.

Croatia’s second largest city, Split, dates back to Roman times, and the walls and impressive imperial quarters remain. This part of town and the surrounding maze of homes, alleys and churches are a UNESCO World Heritages site, and it is little wonder why.

Things to do on the Dalmatian Coast

The Dalmatian coast holiday rentals do not merely let you enjoy the staggering ancient stone walled towns and villages clinging to the rocks above the shimmering blue sea, or relax and soak up the sun in her coves and beaches, but allows you to enjoy the timeless culture and relaxed lifestyle of this part of Croatia.

There are many wrecks from traders and marine battles to investigate off the shores by scuba diving. A particular highlight is the downed B-17 bomber off the island of Komiza. The sea is also used for sailing and boating, which attracts novices and professionals to drift on the constant breezes finding island paradises or relaxing in the sun.

The Roman villas in Split are well worth a visit for any enthusiast, but for genuine culture, the Summer Festival in Split is incredible. Performing arts, food and music fill the theatres, squares, galleries and streets of the town, and the atmosphere is remarkable.

For those who like road trips, it's worthwhile to travel up the Croatian Coast, through Kvarner and Istria. You could continue through Slovenia and end up in Trieste in Italy within a couple of days leisurely driving.

Weather on the Dalmatian Coast, Croatia

Summer on the Dalmatian Coast is warm and sunny, with average temperatures in July and August around 30°C, so it is a perfect time to take a holiday rental on the Dalmatian Coast and hire a boat. The winters however can be cold and harsh, with temperatures dropping to around 4°C, but if you take a jacket, the winter brings out the character and beauty of the Dalmatian Coast in a new way.

Perfect location for visit to Dubrovnic old town .

5 of 5
The apartment is just perfectly located. We stayed a week in October and didn't want to leave. 20 minutes walk into town and as previous reviewers have said, we were fitter by the time we came home! It's a quiet, beautiful area with the best sea views ( apart from the west coast of Scotland, of course) you could wish for. The entrance to the apartment is straight in off the terrace and the view is as spectacular as the photos show. The bedroom is large as is the bed which was very clean and comfortable. Lots of hanging and drawer space in the wardrobes and towels changed frequently. We didn't use the cooker but it's new and very modern. Certainly the living space is small but we weren't there to watch telly and sat outside even when it was dark and cool in the evenings. The town's buildings hold the heat, so it was nice to stay longer there and have a glass of wine on an autumn evening. Ivana and Marina arranged our taxi transfers and Marina provided us with the platter of food, bread and wine she does for all her guests; a traditional welcome sadly lacking in holiday rentals nowadays. We also had tea, coffee, sugar and milk- fantastic! We have already recommended Marina's apartment to friends and must point out that the more expensive hotels are located in the St. Jacob's area but none of them had the views or better service than we did.

Simply Magnificent

5 of 5
Our view overlooking the sea from the top floor apartment at the Villa Antares in Pisak was simply magnificent. In fact everything about our accommodation was first class, it having been recently fitted out to a simple but high standard of equipment, cleanliness and finish. Our owner could not have been more helpful and allowed us to keep in contact throughout our stay to answer our queries. The steps from our apartment led down to the sea and our own private space. The waters here were crystal clear and so swimming, snorkelling and fish feeding proved to be a holiday highlight as was the perfect peace and seclusion. We stayed in mid October 2017 and had glorious weather throughout. Pisak is a charming and picturesque fishing harbour, which out of season was beautifully quiet although thankfully the local quayside bar/restaurant was open for business albeit a little on the expensive side but nevertheless the grilled fish they served was excellent. Breda was also worth a visit for its beach, cafes and its accessible coastal path walks. For our party of three old crocks with suitcases, access to the apartment from the road via the 100 ish concrete steps was not really an issue for us but it might be worth checking this aspect when booking. Having said that, the Villa Antares is fabulous and a place we will most definitely return to next year.
