Make a holiday rental home or apartment in Ciovo, Croatia your home away from home

Ciovo Island is one of the Dalmatian Islands, located in the Adriatic Sea, just off the Dalmatian Coast. Connected to the UNESCO protected town of Trogir, which is one of the most beautiful places to visit, especially during the night. The island is not overrun with tourists or high rise hotels, leaving you free to roam the island in pace.

Things to do on holiday in Ciovo, Croatia

Which ever town you end up taking a Ciovo holiday apartment in, you will be close to a beach. The beaches are mainly pebble beaches, and are suitable for every member of the family. If you have young children, the beaches of Okrug Gornji and Slatine are especially suitable. As you leave the town and villages of the coast, you can find perfectly secluded beaches to enjoy on your own, often shaded by the pine trees which cover much of the island.

The sea provides a magnificent amount of entertainment, from sailing (either exploring the island on your own in a chartered yacht, or with the help of a local skipper). Boat hire and sailing trips are available from the majority of towns. Windsurfing is also a major attraction.

In the evenings, you can settle into your Ciovo holiday accommodation and enjoy some of the fine Mediterranean cuisine of the island, the ingredients for which can be bought in many of the morning markets which spring up across the island. If you would prefer to let an expert handle the cooking, there are many taverns and restaurants to be found within walking distance of the vast majority of holiday rental villas on Ciovo. Apartments here also mean that you can go out in the evenings and enjoy the relaxed yet vibrant nightlife. Across the island you can find open air dance parties, live music and clubs playing all variety of music.

Originally founded by Greek colonists and further developed by the Romans, Trogir has an enormous wealth of fascinating buildings and monuments; as a result, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1997. It is connected by bridge to Ciovo and it is certainly worth making the time to visit Trogir as you arrive or leave your holiday apartment in Ciovo.

In July and August, ‘Trogir’s beach’ becomes an idyllic retreat for those who live in and around the island, and finding a holiday apartment in Ciovo becomes much harder as temperatures soar to 35˚C, and sea temperatures climb to 28˚C. The shoulder season, (June and September) is a great time to visit, as temperatures are slightly less, averaging around 28˚C, and holiday accommodation in Ciovo is in less constant demand. Very nice apartment, great location, lovely views.

We had a 2 week stay, and were met by Anamaraja's father at the airport, just a short 15-minute drive to the apartment. Everything was as described, very clean, with a wonderful balcony over-looking the sea. We liked the area with the short walk down to the sea/beach area and the promenade walks in both directions. We made use of the ferry boat to both Trogir and to Modena beach, and from Trogir you can then take another boat trip to Split which is well worth a visit. Above all our holiday was really relaxing, a comfortable bed, and we appreciated the air-conditioning, especially at night when it was still very warm. There are restaurants within a few minute's walk and especially enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Konoba Rico. Anamarija was the perfect hostess and made us feel very welcome, and gave us good suggestions for outings and restaurants in Trogir. She arranged one excellent full day trip for us to Krka National Park with Petar - this a trip we would recommend absolutely to anyone staying - it was a very entertaining and also educational time about the culture, history, food and wine of Croatia.

Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for our hosts, communications were great. We really appreciated all the tips ,& airport transfers were good.Angela met us at the apartment and was equally as helpful,& full of ideas. The apartment was lovely, brilliantly located,& with it being at the top of a steep walk ,the views from the balcony are worth it.Plus you get to burn off the delicious ice cream which you had to eat at least every other day! I wasn't sure how we would get on with the shingle beaches, but none of us missed sand getting everywhere! As for comfort we all still managed to snooze on the beach! Trogir is beautiful, with lots of intriguing alleyways, being lovely and cool in the summer heat.We got tasty tuna from the fish market, and good fruit, veg etc from the market. The small supermarket at the bottom of the road,on the way to the beach is also very useful. If you go on a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon we would recommend doing one that stops for lunch at a lovely restaurant on the other side of Ciovo island. The simple meal and locations we stopped at were wonderful. The Croatian people we spoke to were all helpful and no one tried to do a hard sales job ,just simply informed you of what they had on offer, and would always try to accommodate any special requests. We went with our 3 teenages(tough customers!)& we all are looking forward to returning to Croatia.
