We spent a week at Yeray and Laura’s apartment. The apartment met our needs, it’s comfortable and well equipped. Laura and Yeray live downstairs and are on hand for any needs. All communication was excellent with quick responses to our emails. The apartment is newly built and there are a couple of small issues which have come to light, which are easy to fix, mainly in the bathroom which the owners are aware of and in the process of sorting out. These didn’t affect our trip and Laura was very apologetic and worried that our holiday wasn’t adversely affected. We really enjoyed the roof terrace which has excellent views across to the volcanos and gets the sun all day. The bed was very comfortable and the living room and kitchen/dining space was comfortable and nicely furnished. Tahiche is a quiet residential location. It is a good base for touring the island. But if you want a lively atmosphere with restaurants and bars close by this wouldn’t be the place for you. We hired a car for our stay, everywhere is easy to get to from Tahiche and driving is pleasant with good roads and fantastic views. We recommend visiting the Manrique designed tourist attractions, they are superb. Lanzarote is a beautiful island and there is lots to see and do. It’s also good to not to stay in the resorts to see the real Lanzarote.
We had a fantastic week staying at Casa Violeta as our base to explore the beautiful island of Lanzarote. The apartment is secluded and very spacious, equipped with everything we needed for self catering. The terrace offers stunning panoramic views of the island, looking out over Maria's amazing cactus garden. It is located well just outside of Arrecife making it very easy to travel from there to explore the island. We had a hire car which made everything accessible to us. The Cesar Manrique Foundation is very close which was the first place we visited on our first day on the island. We highly recommend it as it gives context to Lanzarote and the vision that Manrique had for it and his ideas of 'soft tourism'. The pretty town and former capital Teguise is not far away, Arrecife itself has some great places to visit and eat (and a lovely beach at El Reducto). Do go to all the Manrique created places - The Jardin de Cactus, Jameos del Agua, Cuerva de los Verde, Mirador del Rio etc. The landscape is wonderful and we found a great short walk to visit a volcano crater at Caldera del Cuervo which was good to do especially if you've never been to a volcanic place before. The trip round Timanfaya is also worth it for a glimpse into how the earth once looked! We also found some lovely beaches up near Orzola. Do stay away from the resorts - Lanzarote is so much more than that. Our host Maria was very hospitable and welcoming. She was discrete but made it clear that she could easily be contacted by phone or email should we need to. There is nothing I would change about our visit as it was perfect and we would strongly recommend staying here any day over one of the holiday complexes.
