Things to do

-Beaches: Santa Cruz is next to one of the best beaches on the entire island. Palm-lined Playa de las Teresitas is a golden sandy bay next to the rugged hills of the Anaga Range. The ocean here is calm and almost perfectly clear, which makes it the perfect spot for a family beach trip. The facilities are great too, and there’s always something going on, be it volleyball matches or yoga classes.

-Sightseeing: A few minutes inland from Santa Cruz is the beautiful renaissance city of San Cristóbal de la Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with lots of neatly preserved buildings from the 16th century, and a city layout that would be replicated at countless colonial settlements in the Americas. Santa Cruz also has a number of modern landmarks, like the spectacular opera house, the Torres de Santa Cruz skyscrapers and the bustling Plaza de España.

-Nature: Tenerife is famed for its volcanic landscapes, and nowhere are they more dramatic than in the El Teide National Park, home to the eponymous stratovolcano, which at 3,718 metres is the tallest peak in all of Spain. Closer to Santa Cruz is the Aranaga Range, which takes up all of the northeast coast. Here there are mountains 1,000 metres in height and precipitous ravines to explore.

-Days out: With a car no part of Tenerife’s coastline is off limits. Guests could make their way down to the east coast to visit the modern beach resorts at Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. For a totally different experience, visit the north, which is loved for its picturesque old towns like Garachico and La Olavata, as well as the rural character of its landscapes that are home to vineyards, and banana and avocado plantations.

-Carnival: Tenerife’s carnival is held here in February every year. It’s one of the world’s largest street parties and only behind Rio de Janeiro’s carnival in terms of size and renown. It’s a glitzy, week-long flurry of parades, traditional music performances, historic cultural rituals like the Burial of the Sardine and contests to pick the best performers.

Weather in Santa Cruz

Set on the eastern side of northern Tenerife, Santa Cruz benefits from the subtropical-semi-arid climate shared by the southern portions of the island. Whenever guests arrive at a Santa Cruz apartment there should be springlike conditions outside. Temperatures peak in the low or mid-20s throughout the year, with only a small difference between summer and winter weather. From November to March the weather is a little cooler and a little damper, with highs of 21?C. Summers get maximum temperatures of 27?C here.

Travel to Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is served by Tenerife North Airport (TFN). This is the main way onto the island for guests arriving from mainland Spain or France. Holidaymakers coming to a Santa Cruz apartment from the UK will use Tenerife South (TFS), which has a wealth of connections to cities across the country via charter and low-cost carriers. It’s an advantage to have use of a car here, as the airport is about 40 minutes by road from Santa Cruz. The drive is an easy one though, following the TF-1 for the entirety.

Fabulous Holiday

My son and i have just spent 8 nights in apartment B42 and i cannot speak highly enough about our stay. Check in instructions were delivered as promised 2 weeks before and it was a very simple process to follow. The apartment is spacious and clean, with everything you need for your stay, instructions are provided for the TV and the washing machine, which was a godsend as we don't speak Spanish. There are ceiling fans in every room which keep the rooms pleasantly cool and there is a safe in the bedroom. There is a beautiful terrace, which overlooks the pool and gets the sun from about 12.30 if you would prefer a bit of privacy. The pool area is spotlessly clean, with ample sunbeds and the water was pleasantly warm. The pool bar is fantastic and although we didn't try the food, i am reliably informed that it is fantastic, particularly the Sunday lunch. Fairways staff are polite and courteous and go out of their way to help you if they can. The whole experience was first class from start to finish and the level of communication from Chris and Diane was fantastic. I will be definitely returning here next year at some point. Tony

Great Studio Apartment

A really lovely Studio/Apartment with all that you need for a great stay - including the essentials of a great shower and comfortable bed. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare breakfast (kettle, toaster, microwave, electric hob and oven) which, as we did, can be taken out and eaten on the wide terrace/balcony (enough room for a table & four chairs and hanging space to dry towels etc.). The swimming pool is quiet and you don't have people reserving loungers, so you can easily wander to the pool after a leisurely breakfast and still get space. Nearby are a choice of three supermarkets for any milk bread or groceries you may want. Tips: Dialprix supermarket has the greatest choice and is the cheapest also, buy a 5 or 8 litre water bottle first time which you can then refill from a machine near the pool for a fraction of the cost.
