Fabulous family holiday

We enjoyed a fabulous two week stay this August at Finca La Gaviota for our family of five, teenagers 12, 14, 17. The location was peaceful, away from the resorts and crowds and surrounded by banana plantations. Good views of La Tiède and the sea from the pool area. We appreciated the privacy of the bungalow and the well tended and beautiful private garden with lemon trees, Banana plants and vines around the boundary with ripening grapes. The bungalow is very clean and tidy and is well equipped. The terrace is perfectly placed by the kitchen to eat out and relax. The kids spent a lot of time at the pool which is communal but we had to ourselves whenever we visited. Roberto is a perfect host, leaving us alone but immediately available if we had any questions or needed anything.

A perfect place to relax and unwind

We were met at the airport by Vicente - not the owner, but another Vicente who manages the finca in the owners absence. He doesn't speak much English but we managed to get by with our limited Spanish, his limited English, Google translate and sign language! and a lot of laughter! After about 50 minutes we arrived at the apartment and it was immaculate, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We were the first guests to stay in it and everything is new. The kitchen has everything you need including a good range of food in the cupboard and a nice welcome hamper. Comfortable furniture and bed with quality bed linen and towels provided. It has its own terrace which is very private and sunny where we had breakfast each morning taking in the wonderful views of the sea and Teide. The pool terrace is amazing with it's barbeque and pizza oven, which Vicente showed us how to use. We had some lovely afternoons chilling by the pool with local wine and using the BBQ in the evening. It's amazing here at night when everything is lit up, and we had clear skies which were filled with stars, the photos really can't do it justice. This place is unique, so different to anywhere else we've stayed. The gardens are beautiful with their fountains, and the mosaics of Mount Teide outside our apartment, and the giant lizard on another terrace. It's quite bohemian and very relaxed, with a feeling of freedom. Vicente was very pleased to show us around the vineyard and fruit trees on the lower terraces and he was always in the background and willing to assist if we needed anything, without being intrusive. We got by without a car, we were only there for 5 days. There is a selection of local restaurants at the top of the road - a very steep climb going, but much easier coming back. There is a good selection of shops at La Mancha a 15 to 20 minute walk with a very good Hyperdino where you can get a good supply of groceries, and we got a cab back. There are buses at the top of the road that go to all the main towns and places of interest, so you don't need a car, but if you like to explore a car would be a good idea. We can't wait to return, but for 2 weeks next time so we have more time to explore the local places of interest, and hopefully one of the other 2 apartments will be ready so we can bring our friends with us.
