Perfect for guests who want spectacular natural scenery and plenty of relaxation, holiday villas in Los Gigantes are on Tenerife’s quiet west coast. Here there’s low-key tourism and some breathtaking sights that include cliffs that reach heights of half a kilometre. Play golf, unwind at spas, visit natural beaches and enjoy day trips to Tenerife’s top attractions and sights.

In a part of the island where the landscape is so dramatic, many holiday apartments in Los Gigantes command incredible views of the coast and its cliffs, or the low-lying mountains inland. Allowing guests to make the most of the sun without having to travel are private pools, while interiors are fitted with the kind of appliances and facilities that will make a self-catering holiday a real joy, with internet access and satellite TV offered by many rentals here.

Things to do

-Beaches: Los Gigantes has one beach—a black sandy bay between the marina and the rocks. It is about 200 metres long, and as the main beach in the area is complemented by excellent facilities and services. Not far away in the Santiago del Teide is Barranco Seco, a stunning natural beach, 600 metres in length with calm, transparent waters. To be closer to this lovely beach, take a look at HomeAway’s list of holiday rentals in Santiago del Teide.

-Local sights: Los Gigantes takes its name from the giant cliffs that make up a great deal of the local coastline. Unmissable are the Acantilados de Los Gigantes, huge basalt vertical walls that have to be seen to be believed. Standing at heights of up to 500 metres they are one of Tenerife’s most spectacular natural attractions.

-Golf: At Los Gigantes visitors will be a simple drive from a variety of golf courses. On the west coast these courses take advantage of the dramatic terrain to provide memorable experiences. Abama Golf for instance has one hole 315 metres above sea-level, with striking views out to La Gomera. Buenavista Golf to the North is on the edge of the Macizo de Teno, and sits beneath tall cliffs.

-Other activities: Just north of Los Gigantes the landscape becomes incredibly craggy. This is the volcanic Teno mountain range, which is an unforgettable place for walks, not least because of the rich birdlife that the range supports. Nature-spotting is also available by water—this side of Tenerife is on several whale migration routes, and there are local companies offering cruises to catch this unforgettable sight.

-Day trips: Los Gigantes is neatly positioned on western Tenerife, providing access to both the north and south of the island. For guests who want to explore historic towns, the north boasts gorgeous old settlements like Garachico and Icod de los Vinos. For all the fun and action of modern resorts head for Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas, where there are lovely beaches and world-class attractions like the spectacular Siam Park. For guests who would like to be nearer the action of these resorts, HomeAway has a selection of holiday accommodation in Callao Salvaje.

Weather in Los Gigantes

One of the many things that sets Tenerife apart from Mediterranean destinations is the sub-tropical climate. This a result of the Canary Islands’ location, not far from the coast of Morocco. On Tenerife temperatures are consistently warm throughout the year. There are really only two seasons: winters bring moderate warmth with highs of 20?C or so and occasional rainfall; guests heading for Los Gigantes apartments in summer can expect daily temperatures to rise to around 27?C.

Travel to Los Gigantes

For holidaymakers travelling to Los Gigantes villas from the UK, the airport to use will be Tenerife South (TFS). This destination is served by a range of charter and budget airlines all year round. By car it will take about 40 minutes to make the trip up Tenerife’s west coast from the airport, using first the TF-1 highway and then the smaller TF-47. Given the relatively remote location of Los Gigantes use of car is recommended.

Great location

4 of 5
Stunning views, location only 5 minute walk from the centre of the town- 10 minutes on the way back as apartment located on the top of a hill. Definitely wouldn't recommend for people with mobility issues. The apartment was clean, huge balcony and the beds comfortable. We ate in 6 nights during our stay and we were pleased with the kitchen facilities and essentials. The washing machine was handy. There was a large fridge and small freezer which met our needs. We used the mercadona which was about a mile away- but up hill. There's a couple of smaller supermarkets in the town which offer a good but basic range but more expensive. Thankfully the previous occupant had purchased a large fan as it would have been very uncomfortable in the heat- air conditioning really needed and this is our only negative comment. Los gignates is a beautiful town and although we found eating and drinking out more expensive than las Americas or los Cristianos it was worth it just to be away from constant hassle of street sellers, hoards of stags/hens or restaurants trying to get you to eat in their establishments. Would definitely recommend and would return

A little gem

5 of 5
This top floor one bed apartment is of a high standard and recently refurbished in a modern design, it has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. A big plus is the large terrace with loungers. The location is great for all amenities. We had a fabulous stay and look forward to coming back.
