El Mirador. Magnificent panoramic vistas from the sitting_sleeping and deck areas. Amazing skies.

5 of 5
The smiling welcome from Christian settled us in comfortably after a long day travelling. The studio was intimate and we had all we needed. Sitting above the pool area is serene with superb views down to the sea_quite magical. The gardens were a surprise of colour and varied plants_quite magical_credit to Benjamin. The solitude broken by birdsong and the scuttle of small wall lizards in the sun_quite magical. We enjoyed a few good walks from the paths leading out from El Mirador. The profusion of colourful wild flowers along the roads and paths was a delightful surprise. And when the clouds swirled in above the cool green pine forests above our cottage the effect was quite mystical. All-in-all we had a good and varied holiday. The peace and quiet. Exercise both walking and swimming. Buying local produce in the atmosphere of the mercadillo. Good to cook the local foods. Restaurants we visited were of high quality_quite often German operated. The scenery driving around the island is breath-taking. No straight roads_only hairpin bends. Nothing on the flat_only steep hills. All interesting and you get used to this after a day or so. There was surprisingly little traffic and people around in April/May. Everything was elegantly understated. Very few things in life are perfect_ this place had a good shot at perfection.

Wonderful retreat

If you love nature, and want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, then you will love this little abode. It's situated way off a main road, up high, ~1200m above sea level so it really is peaceful and quiet. Our host met us at the Repsol petrol garage and lead us up the off-the-beaten-track which was great because it was a maze, take note of the turns because we went wrong once and it can lead to a dirt track. We stayed mid-late April so lots of flowers and plants in bloom which was really pretty. Where the property is situated, you can go on hikes, for example up to Roque de los Muchachos, the highest point of La Palma, where the astronomical observatory is. You can witness some amazing sunsets, it really is spectacular and an image I will hold for a long long time. You can also have amazing views of the night sky from the house, the sky is lit with thousands of stars, easily visible because of the low light pollution. It gets cold at night, but the built in fire place is excellent and warms up the place in no time. The upstairs bit can get hot, but there is air con, so we always felt comfortable. The beds were comfortable and clean. The property is very well equipped with all the cooking utensils you need. You can cook up quite a storm, having lots of herbs growing in the surrounding garden and spices supplied in the kitchen. Generally the place is very clean. I would recommend going to the big Lidl by the airport to get your food supplies and Las Pinas restaurant, just passed the Repsol gas station, just after you turn off the busy road up to the Bodega. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it to other nature-loving people.
