Make a holiday apartment in Icod de los Vinos your home away from home

For a getaway on Tenerife’s lush northern coast, where the scenery is spellbinding, have a look at HomeAway’s list of holiday homes in Icod de los Vinos. This is a destination for those who want to cram their holiday with as many trips and activities as possible. Close by are wonderful volcanic landforms to discover via hiking trails, handsome old towns to browse, and even a golf course at the foot of volcanic cliffs.

Holiday apartments in Icod de los Vinos are set out for families to enjoy a relaxing and convenient holiday. At these modern and recently built rentals, most interiors have domestic facilities like dishwashers, wi-fi access and satellite TV. Outside there’s the comfort of a generously sized private garden and many rentals also offer a private pool for added comfort. Things to do

-Local sights: Icod de los Vinos has a charming colonial centre with preserved buildings to see like the beautiful Church of San Marcos. See also Plaza de la Pila, which is essentially a small botanic garden enclosed by grand buildings. Garachico is another lovely town, a few minutes to the west and was partially destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 1706. These coastal towns are overlooked by the steep cliffs of the Acantilados de La Culata.

-Beaches: Playa de San Marcos is the main beach for Icod de los Vinos and is held as one of the best on the northern coast of the island. It’s a sheltered bay with a gentle arc and variety of facilities provided, including sunbeds, showers, sun shades and changing rooms. Rising up behind the beach are tall cliffs and there’s also a promenade lined with traditional Canarian restaurants.

-Nature: This part of Tenerife is home to a number of natural wonders created by the intense volcanic activity on the island. Just outside the town is the Cave of the Wind, a cave created by a lava tube that stretches out for 17 kilometres, making it the second-largest volcanic cave in the world. Further west is the Macizo de Teno, a gigantic volcanic ridge with precipitous cliffs, ravines, caves and also pockets of rich greenery with lots of birdlife. -Recreation: Eco-tourists will have plenty to savour on the northern coast of Tenerife, where there’s lush forest, cliffs, gorges and promontories to explore. The Punta de Teno is loved for its marvellous ocean views and diversity of birdlife. Even closer are the picturesque, vine-covered hills around Icod de los Vinos. Golfers need look no further than Buenavista Golf, an 18-hole course in the shadow of the Teno and designed in 2003 by Seve Ballesteros.

-El Teide: This stratovolcano is visible from practically everywhere on Tenerife and is a symbol for the Canary Islands. At 3,718 metres above sea level the summit is the highest point in Spain and is capped with snow in the winter. There’s a cable car serving a station not far from the peak—from here it’s possible to walk to scenic lookouts, or to climb to the top of the volcano by special arrangement.

Weather in Icod de los Vinos

Tenerife’s weather is celebrated for its pleasant temperatures throughout the year. No season is particularly cold, but here on the northern coast the lush greenery is replenished by consistent rainfall from November to March. Guests arriving at an Icod de los Vinos holiday home between April and October will enjoy comfortable temperatures in the low to mid-20s as well as plenty of unbroken sunny spells. The rest of the year gets daily highs that peak in the upper-teens, so it’s never particularly cold on this island.

Travel to Icod de los Vinos

Tenerife has two main airports, the closest of which is Tenerife North (TFN), which mostly has connections to the Spanish mainland and France. For guests heading to Icod de los Vinos holiday apartments from the UK, Tenerife South (TFS) has a wealth of connections via low-fares carriers and charter airlines. The airport is about 90 minutes by road from Icod de Los Vinos, so a rental car would be necessary for most visitors.

Quiet Charming Stay in a very well equipped Villa

Stayed for 10 nights over the Easter break. Property is nicely situated in a quiet cul de sac, with a wonderful terrace at the back overlooking the sea, and stunning views of Teide from the front. The pictures don't really do it justice. The quiet and very Spanish beach of San Marcos is a five minute walk downhill with a pretty harbour and several small restaurants. A little further afield is Guarachico, a picturesque Spanish village with lots of nice restaurants. Icod itself has a quite scenic centre with lots of restaurants and a Drago tree which is over 1000 years old and quite impressive. An excellent base if you like walking and sight seeing. Maxine and the owner Sally were both very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.
