Make a holiday rental home or villa in Sozopol in Bulgaria your home away from home

Sozopol is a beautiful beach resort town on a rocky peninsula that juts out into the warm waters of the Black Sea in Bulgaria. Sozopol is a resort for the independent traveller, free from the crowds of tourists associated with mass tourism for much of the year, yet filled with facilities and attractions of the highest quality. Taking a self catering villa in Sozopol is the perfect way to experience the best of Bulgarian beach holidays.

Things to do in Sozopol in Bulgaria

There are a fantastic range of restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs in Sozopol, serving everything from traditional cuisine to international dishes, but all at prices much cheaper than many international resorts. Just touring the old town, carving your path through the wooden houses and ancient cobbled streets is a pleasure, especially when you stop at a timeless little café and indulge in a plate of midi, (locally raised mussels) which are an absolute delicacy. The churches of The Holy Virgin and St Zosim cannot be missed and there are a great range of galleries and museums to explore.

However, the beaches are of huge appeal to visitors. There are two beaches in Sozopol, lined with golden sands and perfect for both lazy days stretched out in the sun and for more active breaks, swimming, sailing and kayaking. A little to the south of Sozopol’s beaches is Dyuni Beach, an upmarket beach backed by a stunning area of marshland known as the Arkutino Swamp, where floating lilies decorate the water, and wildlife thrives.

Touring the coastline, whether on foot or from the sea by kayak, small boat or ‘boat taxi’, is a wonderful experience, especially if you head southwards towards the fjord like bays and cliffs of the Bulgarian coast. There are some amazing views to see, especially from some of the dramatic sea caves found among the bays and inlets.

Places to visit on holiday in Sozopol in Bulgaria

The city of Bourgas (Burgas) has a huge amount to see and do. Burgas is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, and is filled with museums, galleries and attractions of the highest quality. Folklore is particularly rich here, much of which is explained in the International Folklore Festival in Bourgas. The saltwater lagoons and national parks that surround the city are also well worth exploration on foot.

Weather in Sozopol, Bulgaria

July and August see many visitors arriving into Sozopol in Bulgaria as conditions are absolutely ideal for lazy days by the sea. Daily peak temperatures can be expected in the mid 30’s (˚C) with wonderful regularity between the end of May and beginning of September. July and August are the hottest months, and as a result, Sozopol accommodation is under its highest demand during this period.

Travel to Sozopol in Bulgaria

There are a good range of flights arriving into Bourgas Airport (BOJ) from the UK, arriving from airports both large and small. The 30km between the airport and a holiday rental property in Sozopol can be breached easily as there are regular bus services, as well as a good variety of hire car companies operating from Burgas Airport.

Out first time in Bulgaria and we decided to go for a more out of city experience, wanted to see some countryside, so we chose this villa largely because the pictures looked good and due to its close location to Sozopol (5km) but plenty of other countryside in the area. Absolutely first class service from the owner and his family post booking with queries and contact. On arrival the owner and his wife were welcoming and very friendly. The villa is lovely, very clean inside and out, kitchen and living room areas are well appointed and spacious with ample seating. The bedrooms have good storage and comfy beds. The shower and bathroom facilities are excellent with very good water pressure. The swimming pool and BBQ areas are well kept with plenty space for large numbers, there were 12 of us and at no time did we feel cramped. The pool is heated and well kept, very clean and clear. The villa is located in a small traditional village. There are loverly views of the countryside and hills from the outside and upper inside levels. There are ample shops (4) to get essentials and almost anything you need, including a hardware store that sells, batteries, glue, tape tools and just about anything else you might need within reason. There is a local bus service that will take you to Sozopol, however the owner will also give lifts to supermarkets for big shops providing you give him a days notice, so you won’t be stuck with bags of shopping on a bus or taxi. Can’t not give the villa and the owners 5 stars, very friendly and a lovely villa that was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We have already decided to return.

Great big designer house

5 of 5
The owner was there to welcome our family group of 10. The house is secure and has plenty of room for family members to have quiet time away from children if required. There are safety gates around the pool, which we used every day, and the stairs, but these can be a bit tricky to close. The pool was the main feature for us and there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas too. The kitchen was generously equipped for a large group and Lidl is close by. The down side is that there are a lot of ants and flies (late May 2018) and some plug in repellents would be a good addition and also a fan or two to help disperse the flies and the heat when it gets hot. The air conditioning in the far bedroom (near the utility room) needs attention. We requested double beds (in the UK we have zip and link, which serve the purpose for a variety of combination of families/friends) but in fact there is only one and this is supplied with two duvets. The rear bedroom cannot be accessed from the house, which is not totally clear from the floor plan, so became unusable for us who cannot think of children being outside or parents being away from their children. We were at the beginning of the season and the garden would benefit from a tidy up but this didn't detract from our fantastic stay. The taxis we ordered, were a bit confused from the Via Pontica road, so the addition of the number (192) on the bottom electric gate would help! However we had a really good holiday, the pool was the main event which was maintained and checked every couple of days. Thank you
