The small community of Possession is within the district of Petropolis and has around 8,000 inhabitants. The scenic roads, mountain landscape and gushing waterfalls are beautiful to discover. The area is mainly agricultural with herb farms, trout lakes, snail breeders, mushroom production and organic farming. Teresopolis is famous for its jagged mountain peaks which attract climbers and hikers from all over the world. The most famous of these peaks is the Dedo de Deus, or “finger of God” although the highest is the Pedra do Sino (Bell Rock) at 2,263 metres. Teresopolis is also well known for its football school and matches.

The rainy season in this area is from October to March although the mountains of the Serrana region may have higher rainfall at any time of year compared to the city and coast and temperatures are considerably cooler.

The nearest airport to holiday rentals in the Serrana region is Rio de Janeiro International (GIG) Airport, also known as the Galeao Antonio Carlos Jobim (GIG) International Airport at Guanabara Bay. It has both international and domestic flights and is located about 20km (13 miles) north of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Air-conditioned buses and municipal taxis take tourists into the main areas of the city although a hire car is necessary to explore this scenic area.
