Make a self catering villa or holiday rental in Bosnia-Herzegovina your home away from home

Part of the former Yugoslavia, the word is spreading about the great opportunities offered by the beautiful country of Bosnia-Herzegovina as an affordable holiday destination. With historic cities, notable architecture, lush mountain landscapes, a sunny climate and gorgeous beach along the Adriatic Sea, there is something for every visitor. The national language is Serbo-Croatian and German is the second language spoken by many. The currency is the Dinar.

Things to Do in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The only real beach in Bosnia-Herzegovina is at Neum, on the short stretch of coatline that divides Croatia's Dalmatian seashore. It offers ideal holiday rentals in Bosnia-Herzegovina as a base for families to relax, swim and sunbathe in the warm Adriatic waters or explore further inland. Beond the coast there are historic fortresses, old monasteries, fascinating mosques and Catholic shrines which paint the picture of this culturally diverse country. For those renting a holiday home in Bosnia-Herzegovina's inland areas, the Una River is one of several which offer exciting river rafting and kayaking which are a great way to enjoy wildlife spotting. Hill walking and hiking is increasingly popular.

Places to Visit in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The capital, Sarajevo has an interesting cultural heritage from its 500 years under Turkish rule. Largely rebuilt after the war, it has a lively café scene and many colourful bazaars where east-meets-west. In August its popular Film Festival draws many visitors who choose to stay in some of the lovely holiday homes in Bosnia-Herzegovina's central region. Mostar is known for its elegant reconstructed Ottoman bridge which links the two sides of the town separated by the Neretva River. The town has 16th and 17th century mosques, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. In the far northwest of Bosnia-Herzegovina is Bihac, the most western Muslim settlement in Europe. Just south of Mostar is Medjugorje, a Catholic Shrine where many claim to have seen apparitions of the Virgin Mary. The peaceful village of Blagaj is a dervish tekkija at the base of a 200m (656 foot) cliff which makes an interesting visit. The Sutjeska National Park includes Maglic Mountain, the country's highest peak at 2,368m (7,769 feet) and Perucica Forest, one of Europe's last primeval forests which has a host of wildlife.

Weather in Bosnia-Herzegovina

Due to the varying terrains, Bosnia-Herzegovina has differing climates. The southern area has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters, sunny summers and average rainfall. Temperatures range from 12-29°C (54-86°F). However, the mountaineous centre and northern areas have an Alpine climate with temperatures from 0-19°C (32-67°F) and higher rainfall.

Travel to Bosnia-Herzegovina

The main airport in Bosnia-Herzegovina is Sarajeva (SJJ) International Airport, about 12km from the centre of Sarajevo. Taxis are available into the city, or hire a car to drive to your Bosnia-Herzegovina holiday rental.

Lovely 2 bedroom apartment in a building with 2-3 others, highly recommended for the price

4 of 5
This 2 bed apartment was just delightful, around 20 min bus ride from the old town which run 2-3 times an hour and right across from a bus stop,. Decent sized balcony with lovely views of the sea inlet and the New Bridge. The family were so helpful to us with tips on where to eat locally and there was a little path across the road which in 5 mins takes you to a little bar Shack, on the water, open all day and hidden from the main road which is excellent to hang out it through the day and in the evening (one night with live music when we were there) if you don't fancy the trip into town that night. Supermarket 300m away and a pizzeria 100m. It's next to main road but I didn't find traffic intruded on my book with a glass of wine. Very reasonably priced and you'd pay much more in town where it's much busier. Here you can stroll along the waters edge of an evening and enjoy the quiet and still close enough to town we didn't need to hire a car for first time in ages. Air conditioning and internet worked well. Perfect base to explore the area. Highly recommended and thanks to Zucalo family. We'll be back!

Great location

Right on the harbour, very spacious for 5 people. Lovely garden, we especially liked the tortoises! Cavtat is a good base to explore Dubrovnik and surrounding area. Good amenities, convenience store, gift shops and restaurants all a stones throw away but the property is still peaceful.
