Things to do in Dalhem, Belgium

It would be well worth taking the time to see more of the town around Dalhem self-catering holiday accommodation. Among the fascinating sights here are the Dutch Town Hall, which dates to the mid-17th Century, and the former city ramparts, which have survived since medieval times. Also from this era are the ruins of the Castle of the Counts of Dalhem, while the Church of St Pancras features a tower from the early 18th Century. A host of events are held in the town throughout the year, many of which date back many years, including the village festival, in which there’s a long-standing rivalry between the town’s “reds” and “blues” societies, which were founded in the 19th Century.

Liege is little more than 20 minutes by road from Dalhem self-catering holiday homes. It’s the largest urban centre in Wallonia, and although it was often synonymous with industry, is now also known for its modern architecture and culture. Meanwhile the historic centre features plenty of interesting sights, including the Palace of the Price-Bishops, and the Town Hall, which was built in the early 1700s. Also attractive is the Curtius Palace, dating to the early 1600s and standing eight stories in height. On the other side of the river the Outremeuse district features a number of historic churches and the stable of the Fonck Barracks.

Places to visit on holiday in Dalhem, Belgium

Also less than half an hour by road from self-catering accommodation in Dalhem is the Dutch city of Maastricht – the southernmost in the country. It is noted for its beautiful architecture and culture, particularly around the centre’s two main squares. Attractions include the Bonnefantenmuseum, dedicated to 16th and 17th Century Flemish art, and the Saint Petersburg Caves, which belong to an ancient Marsltone mine.

Comfortable stay in a beautiful location

5 of 5
Once we had found it (we didn't have an actual address and it is on a bend so we drove past first time) this holiday house has a great location in a village surrounded by beautiful views which we were able to enjoy from the roof terrace along with the sound of the nearby cows. The bakers is right opposite, the pub with its great beers is a very short walk and an added bonus was a small well-equipped supermarket in the village too (although pricey for some things). The house was easy to live in for 5 days: good showers, comfortable beds although the kitchen possibly lacked a few things that we have found in other holiday houses. The tourist information for the local area was very comprehensive. We had thought we would visit Maastricht and Aachen while staying here but were content to explore more locally and particularly enjoyed woodland walks including the one to the ice cream farm.

We were late arriving due to problems at the airport, but the owners were very understanding. We were warmly welcomed and the owners spend time with us, recommending day trips, restaurants etc. The accommodation was very charming indeed! Exceptionally clean and comfortable! Town is a short walk away - plenty of restaurants etc nearby. Also bakers and launderette 2 mins walk away.
