Make a holiday rental home or self catering apartment in St Philip, Barbados your home away from home

St Philip (Saint Philip), is the south-eastern parish of Barbados in the Caribbean. Locally considered to be ‘the countryside’ of Barbados, due to its flat, cultivated plains, St Philip is the largest parish on the island, offering visitors a chance to get away from the tourist hoards.

Things to do on holiday in St Philip, Barbados

One of the most remarkable places to visit on a holiday in St Philip, Barbados, is the Sunbury Plantation, which has been fully restored to its original state, dating from 1660. Complete with Victorian antiques and horse drawn carriages, visiting the Sunbury Plantation gives you a haunting sense of what life was like in Barbados. The picturesque Ragged Point Lighthouse is well worth visiting from a self catering St Philip apartment or villa too. Sam Lord’s Castle is a dramatic sight, and visiting gives you a real since of the violent implications of the pirates which patrolled these waters.

The coastline is a delightful place to walk. Spectacular coastal views, stunning scenery and an array of exotic animals make walking the coastal paths an absolute delight, and it makes a great way to prepare for an evening of sampling the incredibly delicious local cuisine and ice cold rum punch which Barbados is famous for.

Of course, no stay in St Philip holiday rental would be complete without spending a large proportion of your time bathing on the glorious, powder soft beaches which appear on many travel guides to Barbados. St Philip has some beautiful, calm beaches to enjoy, the pick of which must be The Crane beach, which is quite hard to reach, but extremely worthwhile. Long Beach is also remarkably beautiful and slightly easier to find!

St Philip is not a great destination for young families hoping to bathe and swim. The strong waves which pound this tip of St Philip attract experienced surfers from all over the world to take a rental apartment in St Philip, as the surfing is certainly the best in Barbados, and not for the feint hearted.

Places to holiday in St Philip, Barbados

A St Philip apartment in Ocean City is one of the most romantic places to stay in Barbados. Set high on a cliff above the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, there is almost nowhere where you can stay in such a stunning setting without hundreds of other people around you.

Bottom Bay is a beautiful beach in the south of St Philip with a wide, expansive beach where the waves roll powerfully onto the shore. The houses which line the top of the rocky shelf at the back of the beach are some of the best places to see turtles and whales in the waters below.

Travel to St Philip, Barbados

The Grantley Adams International Airport is the only one on the island, but nowhere is more than an hour and a half from the airport. British Airways provide cheap flights to Barbados from the UK, and you can be settling into your self catering St Philip apartment within 9 hours of leaving home! Although it seems a million miles away, a holiday in St Philip, Barbados is really quite easy to take!

Not quite what we thought but still fantastic

5 of 5
A couple things worth noting about this home that caught us a little off guard were the lack of a 3 minute walk to the beach and the general lack of air conditioning. The A/C was definitely a mistake on us by not seeing the more detailed description explaining it was only in the master suite. As others have said, however, much of the house has more than sufficient breeze for comfort all day. There were two rooms upstairs that had no breeze and we moved the mattresses into the master - everyone in our 8 person party ended up happy. The "beach" that is a 3 minute walk is more of a rocky cove with a borderline treacherous walk to reach. We went once during our week long stay and never went back. On to the fantastic. This house is HUGE with a private balcony for every room, and the most gorgeous views of any tropical destination we've visited. The pool is not huge, but all 8 of us were able to play in it together. Bert, the groundskeeper, is fantastic. He was more than happy to give us advice on things to see, took fantastic care of the property, and was generally an amazing person. A month later and I still speak with him! Jackie across the street is wonderful. You must have her prepare at least one meal for you. I'd recommend a traditional Bajan meal and let her handle the menu. She accommodated members of our party with Celiac as well as a vegetarian. I can't say enough good about the meal, and the evening conversations we had at Jackie's! Though there really isn't a beach within walking distance, Bottom Bay is a 5 minute drive at most. It is the absolute definition of paradise. At the top (there are stairs carved into the cliff down to the actual beach) were gentlemen selling fresh coconuts they climbed palms to retrieve. They open the coconut and you can choose to drink it plain, flavored, or flavored with rum. There is a "cave" on the beach that's huge and a reprieve from the hot midday sun, the water is perfectly turquoise, and the waves aren't overpowering if you have little ones. Standing in the perfect white sand, sipping fresh coconut, and absorbing the view was overwhelming. Apparently it's not a super well known beach - virtually private! The island is small so anything can be seen easily. We visited Animal Cave, Harrison's Cave, and toured a rum distillery. The week went by too fast and nobody wanted to leave. I'd highly recommend the house and destination. Worth note - Bajan people are the most friendly folks in the world we've ever met!

Home away from home

Fourth visit here, and wouldn't stay anywhere else now. As always, the apartment was spotlessly clean and airy. Eric and Louise maintain this property non stop, refreshing and updating constantly. The new Bar/BBQ area beside the pool gives welcome shade on a hot day. If you want to feel like a local, not a tourist this is the place to stay. Eric and Louise can show you delightful out of the way bars and beaches, or you can just explore on your own. Cannot recommend highly enough.
