Things to do on holiday to St. Lucy

Whilst there is much to do in and near St. Lucy, many choose this holiday spot simply because they want to do nothing. With endless, white sandy beaches, it is a perfect spot to grab a good book and some sunscreen and spend much of your holiday relaxing on the beach. For those who do want something to do, there are plenty of choices. There are wonderful golf courses nearby as well as the chance for many water sports including kayaking, swimming and fishing. Go SCUBA diving and see vibrant coral reefs, sting rays and other exciting marine life. Of course, you will need to be SCUBA certified to go diving, but there are other activities for those who are not, such as snorkelling. A ride in the Atlantis Submarine just might be the highlight of your holiday in St. Lucy. The submarine will go down about 17 metres where you will be able to see marine life as they were meant to be seen. Next, you’ll go even deeper to see a shipwreck that rests off of the coast of Barbados. If the ride in the submarine is a bit too adventurous for your tastes, you can choose to see marine life by riding in a glass bottom boat instead.

There are also beautiful places to hike and wonderful restaurants where you can eat the freshest seafood and partake of a frosty island drink.

Places to visit on holiday to St. Lucy

St. Nicholas Abbey is the oldest home on the island. Built in 1650, it was actually built as a private home and, despite the name, was never an abbey. It is open to visitors and is decorated with period pieces for furniture to give you a look at what the home may have looked like when it was first built. The Wildlife Reserve Tour gives you a chance to see some more of the gorgeous scenery on the island as well as get an up close look at some Barbados monkeys.

Beautiful character house in a pleasant setting

This house suited our family holidays just perfectly. It is very beautiful, inside and out, just as on the pictures, and has a unique feature of a wrap-around veranda, which provided so much needed shade for kids to play and adults to relax at any time of day and night. All three bedrooms are spacious and air conditioning in each helped everyone to have a good rest after busy days. Living and dining rooms are of a great size and have doors opening to veranda to let the pleasant breeze into the house. The kitchen is very well equipped and stocked with all sorts of utensils and tableware - cooking and dining in was as easy as at home. There is a choice of supermarkets, closest being Jordan's in Speightstown just 10 mins away, and a larger Massy in Holetown is 20 mins drive. Massy stocks many UK products, and many from Waitrose brand range, but of course a lot more expensive due to transport costs. We found that Jordan's being closer actually fulfilled most of our needs, and we only did a couple of trips to Massy. Shared pool is large and deep - 5 feet on both ends and 6 feet in the middle - it is really great for adults swims, but kids may need floating aid to use it - some is provided, but I would suggest bringing your own. The setting on the Bromefield plantation is a paradise for children and animal lovers: we stopped counting how many different species of both domestic and wild animals we saw. Of course, there are gracious horses bred there for racing and polo taking the majority of the fields, but there were also cows, pigs, dogs, chickens, guinea fouls, ducks and geese on the farm side. On the wild side we spotted green monkeys, mongoose, egrets, humming birds, toads, African snails and more! Visiting the beach and the sea was of course one of the key activities, and we chose Haywoods beach for that: it has parking, life guards, both clear sand for swimming as well as nice reefs for snorkelling, watersport rentals, and is only 10 mins drive along the coast - just north of Speightstown. There are also a few breathtaking viewing points of the Atlantic coast on the north-east side of the island only 20 mins away: Animal cave and River bay are a must see. The owners were extremely welcoming and most helpful: Mary-Ann responded to all my questions and queries very promptly; we were greeted at the airport and shown our way to the house, and got much needed help with our luggage as rental cars are quite small.
