Things to do on holiday to St. Lucy

Whilst there is much to do in and near St. Lucy, many choose this holiday spot simply because they want to do nothing. With endless, white sandy beaches, it is a perfect spot to grab a good book and some sunscreen and spend much of your holiday relaxing on the beach. For those who do want something to do, there are plenty of choices. There are wonderful golf courses nearby as well as the chance for many water sports including kayaking, swimming and fishing. Go SCUBA diving and see vibrant coral reefs, sting rays and other exciting marine life. Of course, you will need to be SCUBA certified to go diving, but there are other activities for those who are not, such as snorkelling. A ride in the Atlantis Submarine just might be the highlight of your holiday in St. Lucy. The submarine will go down about 17 metres where you will be able to see marine life as they were meant to be seen. Next, you’ll go even deeper to see a shipwreck that rests off of the coast of Barbados. If the ride in the submarine is a bit too adventurous for your tastes, you can choose to see marine life by riding in a glass bottom boat instead.

There are also beautiful places to hike and wonderful restaurants where you can eat the freshest seafood and partake of a frosty island drink.

Places to visit on holiday to St. Lucy

St. Nicholas Abbey is the oldest home on the island. Built in 1650, it was actually built as a private home and, despite the name, was never an abbey. It is open to visitors and is decorated with period pieces for furniture to give you a look at what the home may have looked like when it was first built. The Wildlife Reserve Tour gives you a chance to see some more of the gorgeous scenery on the island as well as get an up close look at some Barbados monkeys.

We have stayed at many villas and rentals in the Caribbean as well as in Europe, and this one is one of the best. If you like to get away from the touristy areas, and take things at your own pace, the location is awesome, with the beautiful Caribbean literally at your feet, a bus stop less than 100 yds away, and a grocery store just around the corner. It is also a very safe place to stay, and the people living around made us feel very welcome. We did most of our grocery shopping at Moontown, just around the corner, and bought take out food at the little "deli" counter just outside it, to eat at home. The Fishpot, an excellent restaurant with very friendly and efficient service, was just a five minute walk away. We even walked to Speightstown from the villa, about half an hour. It is worth the visit, with its restaurants and bars along the beach. We never needed a car, but did rent one for one day to do some sightseeing, and to purchase some more of the gorgeous pottery at Earthworks. Although this was our fourth visit to Barbados, there were still things we had never seen, such as the Wildlife Reserve https://www.barbadoswildlifereserve.com/ , the North Point Restaurant on the cliffs at the north end of the island, and the Atlantis, near Bathsheba. Linda and Les are excellent hosts. They called us often just to see how we were getting on. Their property manager, Valdez, couldn't have been nicer, and was always available when needed. Linda, Les and Valdez were always keen to hear our suggestions, and would act on them when possible. For example, we mentioned to Valdez that it would be nice to have a lounge chair on the upper level, where we stayed, and within half an hour, had brought us one! A small note; if you are planning to listen to music on your iPhone, you will need to bring an adaptor, as the sound system there uses the docking pad from an older model iPod. But, the sound of the waves was usually music enough for us! We would definitely come back to the Sea Spray, and we would bring our whole family, too!

A wonderful place

5 of 5
Our initial arrival at the Yam House was one of the highlights of our holiday. We arrived a few hours early, hoping to leave our luggage there, but it was all ready for us, including a very generous welcome pack of food, and we were told we could stay. The week there was great. The house is very spacious, comfortable and immaculately presented. The various staff were always attentive and helpful. We loved it and would definitely recommend staying there. The only thing to mention, which is obvious from the location, is, you do really need a car. A bus goes past the plantation, but I think getting around would be a bit challenging and it's not really walking distance to the beach, although an easy drive. If you're after a beautiful retreat within easy reach of amenities but a bit away from it all, this is your place. We would love to return. Thank you and hope to be back.
