Make a holiday rental chalet or cottage in Tirol, Austria your home away from home

Tirol (Tyrol) is an Austrian province at the heart of the Austrian Alps, 20% of which is which is protected as nature reserves. Bordering Germany, Italy and Switzerland, Tirol is a beautiful natural paradise, perfect for hiking, mountaineering, climbing and of course, skiing. There are extremely few places which combine staggering natural beauty and rich cultural heritage so breathtakingly, on top of which you find some of the best outdoor sports facilities anywhere in the world.

Things to do on holiday in Tirol, Austria

Tirol is one of the world’s most respected winter sports destinations, having hosted two Winter Olympics, and offering over 800 ski lifts, 3,000 miles of cross country skiing trails, 176 ski schools, 153 ice rinks and 159 toboggan runs. The feared downhill runs of Kitzbuhel are amongst Tirol’s finest skiing heritage, along with the ski jumping in Innsbruck and the cross-country trails of Seefeld. A ski holiday to Tirol can actually be taken at any time of the year, as there are no less than five glacier ski resorts available, including Pitztal and Stubaital.

After the snow clears, Tirol holidays take a new direction. The scenic Tirol cottages which scatter the stunning scenery of the area become a massive draw for walkers and hikers, with over 600 miles of hiking trails. There are 160 mountain huts to house hikers tackling some of the harder peaks, but a night in one of these will mean you really appreciate the luxury of a self catering rental in Tirol! In summer, the 40 glimmering lakes are a refreshing place for a dip for swimmers.

Whatever you enjoy, a Tirol cottage will certainly entertain. Relaxing with spectacular views and delightful mountain towns will be enough for many, but with white water rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, horse riding, wild water surfing, mountain biking hangliding and fishing available, and all of the highest quality. Golf in Tirol is surprisingly good too, especially when you consider the terrain.

Excellent apartment in stunning location

5 of 5
We visited St Anton in the low season and enjoyed a really lovely summer holiday in the Alps with lots to do outdoors. The apartment is situated in a quiet location with easy access to the town for shops restaurants etc. It is clearly a lot quieter in the summer but a really great place to base yourself for stunning hiking. Several cable cars run in the summer and the local tourist office have a Summer tourist card which gives visitors access to public transport for free and a day of cable car use, swimming pool and choice of activities like hiring an e-bike for free. Karen and George were very helpful and answered any queries we had promptly. The apartment was spotlessly clean and really well equipped. Our teenage children were ecstatic that the WiFi worked! We also all loved the huge drench shower ... this was great after a days walking and I imagine equally appreciated after a days skiing. So to all your ski people out there why not try St Anton in the summer you won't be disappointed. There were options to throw yourself off mountains on paragliders or try the adrenaline rush of downhill mountain biking (cable car up)!
