Make a holiday rental chalet or cottage in Tirol, Austria your home away from home

Tirol (Tyrol) is an Austrian province at the heart of the Austrian Alps, 20% of which is which is protected as nature reserves. Bordering Germany, Italy and Switzerland, Tirol is a beautiful natural paradise, perfect for hiking, mountaineering, climbing and of course, skiing. There are extremely few places which combine staggering natural beauty and rich cultural heritage so breathtakingly, on top of which you find some of the best outdoor sports facilities anywhere in the world.

Things to do on holiday in Tirol, Austria

Tirol is one of the world’s most respected winter sports destinations, having hosted two Winter Olympics, and offering over 800 ski lifts, 3,000 miles of cross country skiing trails, 176 ski schools, 153 ice rinks and 159 toboggan runs. The feared downhill runs of Kitzbuhel are amongst Tirol’s finest skiing heritage, along with the ski jumping in Innsbruck and the cross-country trails of Seefeld. A ski holiday to Tirol can actually be taken at any time of the year, as there are no less than five glacier ski resorts available, including Pitztal and Stubaital.

After the snow clears, Tirol holidays take a new direction. The scenic Tirol cottages which scatter the stunning scenery of the area become a massive draw for walkers and hikers, with over 600 miles of hiking trails. There are 160 mountain huts to house hikers tackling some of the harder peaks, but a night in one of these will mean you really appreciate the luxury of a self catering rental in Tirol! In summer, the 40 glimmering lakes are a refreshing place for a dip for swimmers.

Whatever you enjoy, a Tirol cottage will certainly entertain. Relaxing with spectacular views and delightful mountain towns will be enough for many, but with white water rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, horse riding, wild water surfing, mountain biking hangliding and fishing available, and all of the highest quality. Golf in Tirol is surprisingly good too, especially when you consider the terrain.

Places to holiday in Tirol, Austria

The Mari a-Theresien Strasse connects the impressive Imperial Arch with the old town of Innsbruck, boasting the Golden Roof, the Imperial Court Church and a number of large paintings and dramatic statues.

The Zillertal Valley encompasses all that is magnificent about Tirol. A Tirol cottage rental in Zillertal is surrounded by unbeatable beauty, welcoming people and all the outdoor activities you could dream of.

Wilder Kaiser-Brixental is both a magnificent skiing resort (the largest interconnected ski area in Austria, with 250km of piste) and a summer haven for walkers.

Due to the popularity of Tirol holidays with visitors, there are a vast range of affordable transfer options too, so within 3 hours of leaving the UK, you can be looking with awe out over the dramatic mountain scenery of Tirol, Austria.

Just wonderful!

We had the best time in St.Johan, the apartment had the most beautiful view of the city and mountains, and you could even sit outside on the private deck and enjoy it. We went there primarily for skiing, and it was perfect for this, as you just had a short 5 min walk trough the city to the main gondola lift. After skiing it was so nice to get back to the apartment for a warm bath in the tub or a card game on the deck or in the living room, where you could enjoy the sunset over the mountains. Close by was a really nice italian restaurant that Terri recommended, called La Rustica. They served the best pizzas and risottos! The apartment has a very nice atmosphere, and everything was clean and in good order. Kitchen was well equipped and there was plenty of space. There was loads of fun activities in walking distance including; skiing (slalom and cross country), spa and swimming, hiking, ice skating, shopping and a farmers market on fridays. If you want a fun night out, we can highly recommend Max's pub on wednesday where they had kareoke. The alpine ski area was a really nice, lots of pists, stunning views and not to crowded. Finally Terri was a really nice host that helped us with everything we needed to know and had lots of good tips on restaurants and the area in general. Definitely staying here again!

High quality apartment very convenient for the Scheffau ski lift

5 of 5
A brilliant modern and comfortable apartment equipped with everything you need for a wonderful stay in the Austrian Alps. There's a lot of space for a family of four, a very well equipped kitchen, even 2 bathrooms and a sauna. Arriving late in the evening was no problem - an easy arrangement was made to pick up the keys locally. We felt at home straight away. The apartment is really well situated and its an easy walk to the ski lifts - however maybe being a bit lazy we shipped the skis and boots over by car and parked up. Ski Welt is a great ski area by the way (but don't rely on the piste map to find your way around!!) The bakery is a 5 minute walk over the main road (there's short cut which is easiest to find by starting at the bakery) and one or two restaurants even closer in the same direction. A couple of minutes further up the hill by car brings you to Scheffau village where there's a small Spar supermarket & everyone at Rainer ski shop was really friendly and did a great job fitting ski boots. At the apartment there's a ski room in the basement almost directly below. We were so comfortable in the apartment that we found it hard to muster the energy to go out in the evenings much and we were happy soothing our aches and pains in the sauna and cooking in. Definitely wouldn't have to think hard to find an excuse to come back, and perhaps in the summer as well!
