Miles from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria is a wellness haven. There are a huge number of mountain spas and thermal spring centres throughout the region, and there is nothing which relaxes you more than sitting in a natural thermal pool, surrounded by the silent mountain scenery, and contemplating what you have accomplished and what you are yet to do during your stay in holiday accommodation in Salzkammergut.

There are a huge range of breathtaking trails throughout the mountains, marked for their difficulty and suitability. Information and guides are available from the tourist offices. The mountain biking in the area is simply world-class too, and there are a whole range of seemingly impossible climbs to attempt too. The many lakes which surround holiday properties and ski chalets in Salzkammergut provide a perfect location for sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and even scuba diving.

A lovely apartment in an ideal location

5 of 5
We had a great time staying here. The apartment is light and airy, and very homely. We had all the facilities we needed. All the rooms are furnished to a very high standard. The location is right in the centre of the beautiful Bad Ischl and very quiet. Very much recommend!

In Salzkammergut da kann man gut lustig sein! [White Horse Inn]

5 of 5
I reviewed a one week holiday in this apartment in July 2012 [see below] and wrote: "My wife and I would happily stay here again." We have just done so, which, coupled with my earlier review, should be enough to encourage anybody to book some time here; the combination of comfort, equipment, location and all-round quality must be almost impossible to surpass. The owners continue to be very enthusiastic about the area and are anxious that visitors should enjoy their time here. They try to ensure that everything necessary, other than food, is laid on, so that, for example, clingfilm, washing powder and dishwasher tablets are supplied. Bus and train timetables are available in the apartment, and there are plenty of up-to-date guides and publicity literature, as well as maps and plans. Bad Ischl is not situated on a lake, but its position makes it easily the best centre for exploring the Salzkammergut. Except for watersports, it has better facilities than any of the other towns, and public transport is so good that a car is not only indispensible, it should be dispensed with. Even with a suitcase [preferably on wheels], the walk to and from the railway and bus station is easy. In conclusion: the Salzkammergut is a magnificent holiday region, Bad Ischl is the best centre for exploring it, and this apartment is a splendid place in which to stay.
