During the Salzburg festival held every summer visitors can have their fill of classical music while rubbing shoulders with enthusiasts from around the world. For traditional accordion-driven folk music one can visit countryside pubs.

-Monuments: Among the fascinating ancient buildings that speak of Austria’s illustrious past, the Burg Riegersberg is one of the best preserved. It is open to the public though it is owned by the ruling family in Liechtenstein. Hofburg Innsbruk is another of the country’s most important historical buildings. It was occupied by elite members of Austrian society such as the Empress Maria Theresa.

Weather in Austria

The climate in this country, thanks to its altitude, can be described as cool and temperate. With most of the country being in the Alps, the climate is also described as alpine. Winters are therefore unsurprisingly cold with temperatures ranging between -10 and 0°C. Daylight hours can be as little as two in a day at this time of year. But that doesn’t mean the summers don’t get hot. Between July and August temperatures averages of 26°C are usually observed and on the odd day temperatures climb beyond 30°C.

Travel to Austria

Though holidaymakers can jet in through any one of the country’s six airports, most of them end up jetting in through the Vienna Airport, Austria’s biggest and busiest. Tourists heading to Austria ski accommodation could also use the Salzburg Airport, the second busiest after Vienna. Those coming from Eastern Europe could come in by bus and those coming from the Czech Republic, Hungary or Germany can use fast trains.

Great location for stay in Salzburg

5 of 5
We had a great stay in this self contained 1 bed apartment. It was ideal for the station and the city, about equal easy walking distance of 10 - 15 minutes. We were concerned about it being a basement and whilst it can feel a bit dark it actually didn't bother us. We had our own outdoor sitting space with chairs and table (under the outdoor steps, great if hot or wet,) but we also had use of the main back garden if ever we wanted to sit out in the sun and relax. The washing machine with soap came in very useful as did the airer that we put out in the garden, our clothes dried very quickly out in the sun. Michaela was very welcoming and access to accommodation was easy. There were enough cooking facilities with a little oil, salt, pepper, tea, coffee and sugar which are always useful. The only thing I can say is it would have been nice to have some milk in the fridge as we had to then back track to the station for the nearest supermarket before we could have a cuppa. The bed was very comfortable and the area lovely and quiet, just what we were after. We would definitely stay here if we were visiting Salzburg again. Many thanks Michaela, Julie and Jim.

Nice basic apartment with everything you need locally

My son and I had a great week in April for some late-season skiing. Lovely restaurants and bars within walking distance, as well as decent supermarkets and ski/sports shops.
