Make a holiday rental home or chalet in Alpbachtal, Austria your home away from home

Set high on a plateau in the Alpbach Valley, Austria, is the ski resort of Alpbachtal. Located between Kufstein and Innsbruck, the resort has endless charm, fantastic access and unrivalled beauty, attracting return visitors from around the globe. Known as the most beautiful settlement in Austria, Alpbachtal is also fantastically rich in facilities, both for skiing and relaxing during your holiday.

Things to do on holiday in Alpbachtal, Austria

Alpbachtal is a wonderful place to be, summer or winter. The extensive shopping, fine restaurants and welcoming night life give the village a wonderfully friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of top quality child care facilities in the resort too, as well as excellent restaurants and a huge range of non-snow activities from swimming to ice-skating, hiking to horse-drawn carriage rides to enjoy. Alpbachtal is also home to Tirol’s warmest swimming lake, but even so, lake swimming here is still not advised during the winter!

However, it is the skiing, which lasts from mid-December until April, which first attracts the majority of visitors to self catering Alpbachtal accommodation. The friendly atmosphere and abundance of learner slopes, ski schools and large private chalets in Alpbachtal make it an absolute delight for family skiing holidays, but experts can be found regularly bursting through fresh powder falls in the many off piste areas surrounding the town. There are 50km of pistes, the longest of which is a great 8 km stretch, and there are plenty of opportunities to try the pistes of the neighbouring Kitzbuheler and Ziller Valleys on a single pass.

During the summer months, Alpbachtal is a haven for walkers. The surrounding mountain peaks are wonderfully diverse, from gently sloping ridges to craggy rock faces providing terrain suited to every level and style of mountaineering. Climbers and para-gliders will also be able to find plenty of sport from their Alpbachtal holiday rental. The Tirol Lakes are especially important in Alpbachtal, not only for their aesthetics, but also for swimming, kayaking, white water rafting and tube riding trips.

Places to visit on holiday in Alpbachtal, Austria

The village of Alpbach is amazingly traditional. An image of sloped Alpine roofs, covered in a thick layer of fresh snow will greet you every morning as you look out from your rental chalet, and the mountains, restaurants and shops of Alpbach cannot fail to endear you to this staggeringly beautiful village.

The village of Brandenberg is actually a collection of five tiny settlements, which are surrounded by wonderfully unspoilt countryside in the Alpbach Valley. It is a perfect place for nature lovers and with skiing right to the door, you couldn’t ask for any more!

Travel to Alpbachtal, Austria

The best way to reach an Alpbachtal chalet, apartment or holiday home is to catch a flight to Innsbruck Airport (INN) and rent a hire car from the airport. This is very easy, especially due to the number of regular, direct and cheap flights to Alpbachtal provided by easyJet, leaving from London, Bristol (BRS), Liverpool (LPL) and Manchester (MAN), with more routes being scheduled each year.

An idyllic, remote alm that was perfect

5 of 5
Bischoferalm provided a beautiful, but very functional, house, now supplemented by a well equipped Wellness Centre. We were a 20 person family group from 9-83 years old. The location is spectacular and provides not only views and access to great walking, but a remoteness that one can really enjoy - noise levels are not an issue, either received or generated! The Kostenzers very much let you get on with it without any interference and one has free rein to use the Alm however it suits. The Wellness Centre is a great example, where children can freely roam and enjoy, which they did. Margot was our live-in chef who was very good and almost invisible - we didn't even realise she lived there for the first three days... Access is not an issue so long as one appreciates it is up the mountain and one plans a little in advance - in snow, Franz Kostenzer will always get you where you need to be be. For our family, the situation was perfect and it was our best winter holiday yet.

Great apartment, wonderful village!

5 of 5
We have just returned from a weeks stay in Hannah apartment. It was ideal, right in the village in a traditional style chalet building. The rooms are a generous size and it was very clean and everything was provided. It was great to have the little garden area where we could sit in the sun after a hard morning's skiing! Alpbach is a lovely location and we plan to return in the future.
