Make a Holiday Rental Apartment in Goolwa, Australia, Your Home Away From Home

The South Australian town of Goolwa can be found at the mouth of the Murray River, some 60 miles south of Adelaide. The town is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, named after Charles Pierre Claret de Fluerieu - a French hydrographer and explorer who mapped this region of South Australia in 1802. It is now an extensive wine-growing region, as well as a popular tourist draw, due to the long sandy beaches which line the coastline. Tourists from the UK may find this region slightly off the beaten track from the better known Australian destinations found mainly along its eastern coastline. This is a shame, as tourists spending their holidays in Goolwa will find that there is a good choice of self catering accommodation available in and around the town, in the form of apartments and villas.

Due to its coastal location, water sports are by far the most popular activity amongst visitors spending their holidays in Goolwa. The Fleurieu Peninsula boasts numerous good surfing beaches along both its western and southern coastlines, perhaps the most notable being Waitpinga, Middleton, Moana and Seaford. As well as surfing, windsailing and jet skiing, visitors may also bathe in the warm waters of the Southern Ocean or enjoy a boat trip from nearby Cape Jervis to Kangaroo Island. Much of the island consists of national parks and conservation areas, where many species of Australia’s unique wildlife, including kangaroos, wander free and uninhibited.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Goolwa, Australia

There are a number of interesting tourist attractions and sights to be found within the town of Goolwa, perhaps the most notable being the PS Oscar W paddle steamer and the bi-annual South Australian Wooden Boat Festival. Many visitors, however, will naturally be drawn to the big city attractions of Adelaide, just an hour’s drive away to the north. The state capital and Australia’s fifth largest city boasts numerous interesting places to visit and explore, mainly within the relatively compact and easily navigated streets of the downtown district. Of particular interest to most tourists enjoying their holidays in Goolwa will be St. Peter’s Cathedral, the South Australian Museum, Adelaide Botanical Gardens and the National Wine Centre. The city also boasts some great shopping experiences and a thriving arts and music scene.

Weather in Goolwa, Australia

One of the biggest draws for most tourists from the UK looking to spend their holidays in Goolwa is its weather. The town enjoys a warm, Mediterranean-like climate, with temperatures averaging around 28 degrees Celsius in the summer and around 15 degrees in the winter. Most of the town’s average annual rainfall of 21 inches will fall in the winter months.

Fabulous Accommodation

5 of 5
With sea views, this fabulous home met all our needs for a weekend stay. With 5 adults sharing this accommodation for one of the nights there was plenty of room. The furniture was modern and comfortable. We brought our own linen/pillows, but the quilts etc are great quality and very tasteful. Having an ensuite to the main bedroom was a bonus. There is also a smaller room off this bedroom with a cot etc for a baby. Although we didn't really cook any meals the kitchen is well appointed with plenty of room. I think there may've been a coffee pod machine, but we opted for Coffee at Bombera cafe. The living areas are upstairs with great views, even though Seaspell isn't on the foreshore. The sleeping areas are all downstairs with views of the gardens. As a cool change swept through on the Saturday we enjoyed using the ping pong table in the games room, which also has numerous other games to keep family members entertained. The beach is about a 5 min walk. We frequented the Bombera Cafe for excellent meals and coffee. Bombera is a super relaxed cafe, but on warmer days it pays to book. The town of Goolwa, which is about a 5 minute drive offers great cafes and the usual country shops. The supermarket is only about a minutes drive. The acclaimed 'Encounter Bike Track', which runs along the coast is something we are wanting to do at the next visit. Denise was responsive to all our requests and nothing seemed too much. Using the expressway this accommodation sits just over an hour away from the city and well worth the drive to chill in comfort and take in the pounding surf of Goolwa Beach. We will be back 'Seaspell'!
