A self-catering villa on the Fleurieu Peninsula enjoys a diverse and interesting landscape. There are green hills bounded by cliff tops, beautiful sandy safe family beaches as well as great surfing beaches and sheltered coves. The Murray River winds through the area of wineries and conservation parks. The scenery is stunning and the opportunities to sail, fish, surf, or just relax are many.

Things to do on the Fleurieu Peninsula, Australia

The region where you will find Fleurieu Peninsula holiday villas is a great place to get up close to indigenous wildlife. There are kangaroo conservation parks, always a hit with old and young alike, nesting pelicans, penguins coming ashore on Granite Island, dolphins coming in shore to see what the humans are up to and whales, often with their young, in the ocean. If you want more, the Urimbirra Wildlife Experience has more than 70 species of native Australian fauna, including saltwater and freshwater crocodiles, koalas, snakes and a whole lot more.

On the coast near Fleurieu Peninsula self-catering accommodation is every sort of beach and cove from the truly wild like Waitpinga beach. There is fishing here for salmon and mullet, but only surf here if you are very experienced. In complete contrast is the long stretch of soft sand at Goolwa or Horseshoe Bay at Port Elliot, a real family favourite. And different again is Middleton, considered one of the best surf beaches in Australia.

There are two aboriginal cultural centres in the vicinity of Fleurieu Peninsula rental villas: Camp Coorong, where you can learn all about the Ngarrindjeri culture and Warriparinga Cultural and Wetlands Centre, an important and sacred place for the Kaurna people. A different sort of culture is to take a tour of the wineries here; close to the Murray River you can savour the local wines, eat fine food, and watch the boats sail by.

Wonderful accommodation, location and value

5 of 5
Three adults and our dog, Crosby recently stayed at Albatross Beach House. A great location, one block from Chiton Beach meant we heard waves hitting the shoreline, regularly. Despite that closeness to the beach, it was a very short distance to the indefatigable Victor Harbour - Port Elliot Rd and a lovely view of the foothills. Albatross Beach House, itself was terrific: coordinated furniture including two big sofas, great kitchen galley, renovated bathroom, deck and kitchen, etc. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and the large television screen and shower water pressure were appreciated. The back garden was well laid out and offered secure surrounds, worthy of exploration, by Crosby. Albatross Beach House was amazingly clean and surprisingly affordable compared to other sites we've stayed at on Fleurieu Peninsula. Very recommended as a home base to explore Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbour, as evidenced by the framed wall map on the lounge wall.
