Elsewhere there’s a bowling alley in the town, or for relaxation you could head to one of the day retreats and spas.
From a Cowes self-catering holiday villa you’ll be able to get out and see more of Philip Island. The port of Rhyll would be a great place to take part in maritime activities, like sailing and angling. At Rhyll Inlet you’ll find a world-renowned site for migratory birds, with mangroves, salt flats and marshes. There are specially installed boardwalks here, along which you’ll be able to spot koalas in the trees. Further around the east coast of Philip Island is Newhaven a great spot for water sports – you could hire a kayak and head over to neighbouring Churchill Island. Meanwhile nearby Cape Woolamai is one of the most popular beaches for surfing in Victoria, and also boasts an abundance of avian wildlife.
Elsewhere on the island around Cowes self-catering accommodation are a number of wineries, where you’ll be able to take part in tastings and enjoy lunch. For the freshest seafood you could head for the San Remo Fisherman’s Collective, where you’ll be able to buy fish straight of the boat.
Cowes holiday accommodation is a short ferry ride from Mornington Peninsula, a lovely rural area, with farms and vineyards. The interior of the cape is home to numerous wineries, with ten options for tasting sessions and sophisticated lunches. The coastal landscapes here are also lovely, with spectacular cliffs and beaches to be found at Mornington Peninsula National Park.
At self-catering holiday accommodation on Cowes you’ll encounter a temperate climate, which makes for moderately warm weather in summer, and mild winters, when temperatures only get close to freezing at night in June and July.
Qantas has flights to Melbourne (MEL) from London-Heathrow (LHR), and from this airport there’s a two-hour drive down to self-catering holiday villas in Cowes.
