Make a holiday rental beach house or villa in Antigua your home away from home

Antigua is situated in the Eastern Caribbean and is the largest and most populated island in the country of Antigua and Barbuda. Antigua claims to have a different beach for every day of the year, but it is only the extremely fortunate who will ever be able to test this theory! I can confirm however that there are enough delightful coves covered in powdery soft white sand and lapped serenely but warm, crystal clear waters to keep anyone staying in Antigua accommodation extremely happy.

Things to do in Antigua, Caribbean

The lifestyle of Antigua is unsurprisingly influenced by the sea. Sports both on and in the water thrive, with spectacular snorkelling, diving, swimming, fishing, windsurfing, sailing and kite-surfing. One of the top-three regattas in the world happens in Antigua. The Antigua Sailing Week in May brings sailing enthusiast flocking to the islands, making Antigua accommodation like gold dust, but if you take a rental villa early, all will be well.

On land, the unspoilt landscape of Antigua is a haven for a rich abundance of bird and animal life. Nature trails throughout the island not only take you to the best artificial sites of the island, like the exotic hilltop forts which proudly depict the history of the island, but also give you the opportunity to see some of the delightful wildlife. From a villa in Antigua you can investigate many natural phenomenons, from blow holes to the famous Devil’s Bridge.

The long and tumultuous history of Antigua makes for fascinating exploration. The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda tells the story of the islands, and shows you some of the most intriguing places to investigating.

Of course, despite the enormous wealth of entertainment, on the island (especially during the famous Antigua Carnival), there is often nothing better than simply relaxing on the beach or in your self catering Antigua holiday rental with a rum cocktail and soaking up the sun, sounds and sights of this beautiful island paradise.

Places to go on holiday in Antigua, Caribbean

Nelson’s Dockyard in the English Harbour (where Admiral Lord Nelson originally anchored his fleet) is the sailing Mecca on the island, attracting huge numbers of seafarers and a vast fleet of yachts.

Weather in Antigua, Caribbean

Antigua has a glorious and almost constant climate. Whenever you feel like you need to completely relax in blissful sunshine, an Antiguan villa provides the answer, basking as they do in daily temperatures of between 27 and 32˚C all year round.

Travel to Antigua, Caribbean

A dream holiday in Antigua is not as far away as you might think. The V.C. Bird International Airport receives three weekly flights from London every week supplied by either British Airways or Virgin Atlantic, meaning you can be stretched out on one of Antigua’s glorious beaches in just 8 hours.

Lovely villa, great area, highly recommended

5 of 5
Booking was easy and Sue answered all our questions quickly. It was lovely to be met at the airport by Glenmore the taxi driver that Sue uses, he was so informative on the best things to see and do and we were able to make contact with him many times during our stay. The management company met us on arrival at the villa with initial info and were easily contactable after that. The Calabash is a well equipped, clean, spacious villa with a great sized pool and well kept grounds. There are towells in abundance and the villa was completely cleaned every 3 days. The air conditioning was invaluable and the alarm system was easy to use when we were out. Jolly Harbour is a five minute walk away, via a partly unfinished road, if this bothers you then hiring a golf buggy in the Harbour is easy and reasonably priced. It didn't bother us and we were a group ranging in age from 10yrs to 88yrs. There are torches to use for the walk back at night. Jolly beach is only a few minutes walk further than the Harbour, it really is beautiful and great for snorkelling as well as relaxing. Cocktails and snacks at Castaways are highly recommended, if you need a break from the beach. The supermarket is in Jolly Harbour, it is expensive so you just need to budget accordingly. Bizarrely, it sells Waitrose goods! We visited in low season, so many restaurants were closed, but Akropolis and Miracles remained open. Melinis and the Crow's Nest closed whilst we were there, but we did manage a visit to both. All provided great food. There is a bank for changing money in the Harbour, just be prepared for a wait! We found using Easter Caribbean dollars and credit cards easiest. A plus of visiting in low season was that the beaches were empty - make sure you make the short trip to Valley Church beach and Ffryes beach - get the bus it's easy and cheap. Catch the Cat Charters and Paddles Snorkel and Kayak Eco Adventure are both fantastic things to do. Hurricane Irma raised her ugly head towards the end of our stay. We received ample reassurance from the management company and Sue made contact several times from the UK to check that we were OK. We left just a few hours before it hit, but have been in contact with Sue and local people many times since. All are safe, the villa remains untouched and the island is as beautiful as ever, do not let the recent events put you off visiting. Thanks Sue and all the Calabash team for your concerns and for a fantastic holiday.

Wonderful property, beautiful country.

We had an amazing holiday staying at this beautiful villa. It's such a pleasure to stay in a villa with everything you might need on a day to day basis all of excellent quality. The deck was our favourite place especially early morning as the sun rises. We would recommend the golf buggy , it added so much fun to our trips to the beach and supermarket . We loved Jolly Harbour and will most definitely return. Antigua is a wonderful island full of beautiful people.
