Make a holiday rental beach house or villa in Antigua your home away from home

Antigua is situated in the Eastern Caribbean and is the largest and most populated island in the country of Antigua and Barbuda. Antigua claims to have a different beach for every day of the year, but it is only the extremely fortunate who will ever be able to test this theory! I can confirm however that there are enough delightful coves covered in powdery soft white sand and lapped serenely but warm, crystal clear waters to keep anyone staying in Antigua accommodation extremely happy.

Things to do in Antigua, Caribbean

The lifestyle of Antigua is unsurprisingly influenced by the sea. Sports both on and in the water thrive, with spectacular snorkelling, diving, swimming, fishing, windsurfing, sailing and kite-surfing. One of the top-three regattas in the world happens in Antigua. The Antigua Sailing Week in May brings sailing enthusiast flocking to the islands, making Antigua accommodation like gold dust, but if you take a rental villa early, all will be well.

On land, the unspoilt landscape of Antigua is a haven for a rich abundance of bird and animal life. Nature trails throughout the island not only take you to the best artificial sites of the island, like the exotic hilltop forts which proudly depict the history of the island, but also give you the opportunity to see some of the delightful wildlife. From a villa in Antigua you can investigate many natural phenomenons, from blow holes to the famous Devil’s Bridge.

The long and tumultuous history of Antigua makes for fascinating exploration. The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda tells the story of the islands, and shows you some of the most intriguing places to investigating.

Of course, despite the enormous wealth of entertainment, on the island (especially during the famous Antigua Carnival), there is often nothing better than simply relaxing on the beach or in your self catering Antigua holiday rental with a rum cocktail and soaking up the sun, sounds and sights of this beautiful island paradise.

Places to go on holiday in Antigua, Caribbean

Nelson’s Dockyard in the English Harbour (where Admiral Lord Nelson originally anchored his fleet) is the sailing Mecca on the island, attracting huge numbers of seafarers and a vast fleet of yachts.

Weather in Antigua, Caribbean

Antigua has a glorious and almost constant climate. Whenever you feel like you need to completely relax in blissful sunshine, an Antiguan villa provides the answer, basking as they do in daily temperatures of between 27 and 32˚C all year round.

Travel to Antigua, Caribbean

A dream holiday in Antigua is not as far away as you might think. The V.C. Bird International Airport receives three weekly flights from London every week supplied by either British Airways or Virgin Atlantic, meaning you can be stretched out on one of Antigua’s glorious beaches in just 8 hours.

Lovely villa in a wonderful location!

5 of 5
An absolutely wonderful villa with a view that left us speechless! The local Darkwood beach was one of the best on the island, beautiful sand and a lovely place to snorkel, all with the added bonus of a friendly beach bar! St. Johns is a vibrant town and well worth a visit to experience the real Caribbean. Take a trip through the rain forest to English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard and on your way back call at Colesome on Jonas Road, for fresh local fruit and veg. Emalyn was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble whilst we were there. Howard made booking and getting to Calabash really easy, the driving directions were so easy to follow! I would not hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone who wants to visit Antigua and avoid the commercial, tourist hotels. I would love to return!

Private Paradise

5 of 5
The photos of the Cactus villa don't lie. It looks just like that! Gorgeous, spacious, and the pool deck is something to behold. It was so nice, we joked that we just wanted to stay at the house ! You definitely need to go grocery shopping when you arrive, but a great store is just a short drive away. Speaking of driving, we rented a small vehicle from Sunny Rentals (highly recommended) and the little car had a tough time getting up the driveway (even when dry!). I highly suggest a 4x4 rental for driving in Antigua (nasty speed bumps will scrape the bottom of the small cars!). We never attempted to walk to the beach or to stores from the villa. Just too far in the June heat. But when we did do the beach (bring your own towels! Villa doesn't supply beach towels), we frequented the closest (and best) one: Church Valley. We had the beach to ourselves one day (it's off-season in June) yet the bar/restaurant was open and did a great job (rentals, etc., they had it all). This beach has facilities...a must! The villa is close to the harbour, and lots of restaurants. Mayday and Al Porto were excellent, to name a few. A few notes on the Cactus villa that you should know: the pool deck on the floor where all the bedrooms are, two of which open right out to the pool. The bedrooms have A/C. The floor above (kitchen, family room) does not have A/C. It gets quite hot when you close all the doors. Upon each return, we'd immediately opened all the double doors on that floor and the wonderful breeze cooled that area well. The veranda was one of our favorite spots for chilling out during the hot daytime (we're all fair-skinned) and in the mornings for breakfast. Views are stunning and birds would often visit. There are lots of DVDs near the TV that kids would like. A nice collection of books are there as well. Kitchen was awesome, but you need to keep things spotless. Otherwise, ants will arrive. No dirty dishes or food should be left out. We had zip-lock bags for particularly opened snacks, etc., and that worked well. If we return to Antigua, no doubt this is where we would want to stay again..best side of the island. We felt like rich folks on that hillside! Everyone associated with this villa have been a pleasure to work with: from reserving it to preparing for our arrival...from Lava (our driver) to Hazel (property manager) to Roger the owner...all were awesome. We didn't see housekeeping, but they did a great job before we got there.
