The blog went live on New Year’s Day, marking the beginning of an exciting year. Then on 1st February, after waving goodbye to family and friends, the duo set off. The first stop was Dubai, their ‘base’ for the last several years, for some final preparations, most notably a little pre-launch soirée with fellow travel writers and media. This fabulous 5-bedroom villa on The Palm provided the perfect base and the huge kitchen was put to good use as Terry whipped up an impressive array of Arabian-inspired cocktails and canapés for their guests.

Next stop was London for our official launch party, where Lara and Terry stayed in this gorgeous penthouse in Battersea overlooking the Thames. This spacious, modern home with its fantastic floor-to-ceiling windows and views provided the perfect spot for our launch and we had a great turnout of fellow travel writers, bloggers, tweeters and press, plus some local London-based owners who joined us for the fun. Thanks again to everyone who came!

But these first two stops weren’t just for fun (though admittedly, lots was had!), Lara and Terry also wrote plenty of other posts on Dubai and London too, in keeping with our key Grantourismo themes of living like locals, seeing, doing and (very importantly!) eating the best there is on offer in each place.
Since Dubai has been the couple’s base for many years, Lara did a post on ‘ Budget Dubai ’ to show there’s much more to it than glitz, glamour and WAGS, and that a holiday here needn’t break the bank. Indeed, even the luxury villa they were staying in works out at just £136 per couple per night if there’s a full house.

In London, they were on a quest to seek out the Best of British produce, enjoying a foodie walk by Context that took them to Borough Market and beyond, and sampling some of the best restaurants serving traditionally British cuisine. And despite the grey skies and freezing temperatures (and the shock of coming from Dubai!), the couple were determined to get out and about and explore the local’ hood.
