General information

Situated in an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this wide and sweeping sandy beach is owned by Evans Estates, a family-owned company who maintain it in tip-top family beach holidays condition. Self-catering English country cottages and other beach holiday rentals can be found nearby, and with such a wide selection to choose from, you can be sure to find delightful cottages for you and your family. Bantham isn’t one of the most famous beaches, but many consider it the best beach in England, if not the best in Britain. It’s one of the dog-friendly beaches of Devon, but canine access is restricted from May 1t until September 30 on the main beach, yet permitted on the section beside the estuary. This dog-friendly signed area is accessible at low tide.

Major attractions

Bantham Beach and its surrounding area is a beautiful haven for wildlife, making it one of the prettiest beach holidays destinations. Nearby are some coastal footpaths, such as the famous South West Coast Path, which are well regarded by keen walkers. A little way out from the beach can be seen picturesque Burgh Island and the remains of the chapel, called Huer's Hut, upon it. The island can be accessed on foot at low tide and is one of the local beauty spots that can be seen from your accommodation in Bantham Beach and the surrounding area. A car park is just a hundred metres from the beach, reachable across the sand dunes. This has a 1,000-car capacity, and charges apply from Half Term until October 31. In the car park can be found The Gastrobus, a family beach holidays favourite eating place that serves locally sourced food from 10.00 a.m until 7.00 p.m. throughout the summer. It’s a great place to eat on your cheap Bantham Beach holidays.

When to visit

The South Devon climate is quite favourable all year, but to enjoy sunny beach holidays on Bantham Beach, it's best to go during the summer. However, spring and autumn are also good for cheap beach holidays when it's less busy.

How to reach

Get on the A379 from Plymouth, heading into South Devon and continuing past Modbury and Aveton Gifford. At the Bantham Cross roundabout, take a right. If approaching from the direction of Totnes, go on the A381 and then the A379 to the Bantham Cross roundabout. Continue straight to the Bantham Road and continue on to Bantham village and the beach car park.

There is certainly plenty to keep the whole family occupied during Bantham Beach holidays. Whether you’re staying in beach apartments or beach cottages, you’ll enjoy one of the best beach holidays you’ve ever had. The swimming is excellent on this beach, which has won awards from the Marine Conservation Society and Blue Flag. There is an R.N.L.I. lifeguard service throughout the season, and the beach shelves gently into the water, so you know this is a safe beach. If you enjoy a spot of surfing on your U.K. beach holidays, then please note that this is one of the best surfing spots in the area, with mellow ankle-slapper waves for those just starting out and some wild rips and breaks in the mouth of the Avon for the more experienced surfers. Should you wish to explore the area, there’s a pedestrian ferry across the Avon to Bigbury. Whether it's weekend breaks in Bantham Beach or a full holiday, this part of the world welcomes you.
