Unique wedding venues to get married
A wedding is generally considered to be the most important day of anyone’s life. After the initial thrill of the proposal, the shared excitement of your family and friends and months, even years, of rigorous planning, the day itself should be one that neither party forgets. That in mind, choosing the perfect venue for the event is easily one of the most important aspects of it all. Whether it’s a fairytale castle wedding, a traditional religious ceremony in a church or something altogether more low-key, everyone deserves the best.

Whether the groom opts to don a kilt or not, Scotland is a terrific wedding destination. The landscape could scarcely be more romantic: sky-scraping mountains, low-slung glens, pebble beaches - it’s indubitably the stuff of fairy tales. For the true romantic, it is difficult to see beyond Gretna Green. The old blacksmith shop in the tiny town on the Borders was traditionally a haven for star-crossed young lovers who fled there to marry away from the prying eyes of their family. Today, the venue is still popular for more conventional occasions.
It is no coincidence that the Hawaiian island of Maui is highly lauded as one of the world’s premier destinations. Countless beaches with crystal-clear azure waters and gorgeous golden sands abound across its coastlines, with the stunning peaks of Haleakala National Park inland providing an incredible view of your surroundings. Consider cutting out the middle man and holding the wedding itself here, affording you the opportunity to avoid the dreaded journey after a night of partying at your reception.
OK, it’s hardly the most romantic destination for the big event. Providing, however, you haven’t met your future spouse at the blackjack table a few hours earlier, Vegas can be a glamorous and exhilarating option. More luxurious casinos such as the Bellagio shy away from the tacky imagery that may be at first glance off-putting; but the likes of the Little White Chapel are always on hand to give you the more “Hollywood” Sin City wedding. For a truly surreal experience, the Graceland Wedding Chapel presents the chance to be married by the King of Rock & Roll.
Renowned worldwide for its exceptional beauty and dramatic scenery, this Mediterranean coastline is also home to a plethora of enchanting churches and cathedrals. The steep slopes are awash with colourful terraced houses and lemon groves, craggy cliff sides giving way to sun-dappled and glittering seas below. The town of Positano is arguably the most picturesque of all, with a fantastic beach and the famed L'Albertissimo drink that can only be purchased from a specific stall on the harbour. Another romantic option is the UNESCO World Heritage coastal province of Ravello, home to a variety of charming churches - and just a few thousand inhabitants!
They don’t call it the City of Love without good reason, and as you may expect, it is a magical choice for any dream wedding. Plus, given that wedding costs often corkscrew out of control (do they ever!), the proximity of Paris to our own borders means it’s easy to shoot through on the Eurostar or hop on a budget airline. For the giddy couple, what could be more romantic than a boat cruise along the River Seine, a glass of wine in a pavement bistro, or a reflective moment atop the Eiffel Tower to bookmark such an occasion? A bonus: your guests will be forever grateful for an excuse to visit one of Europe’s most exalted cities.
