Gageac et Rouillac, France

Formed in the early 19th century when two parishes merged together, Gageac et Rouillac is a village that is typical of the Perigord Pourpre region – being a small, quiet and somewhat understated destination that lies amongst some beautiful and unspoilt countryside. Gageac et Rouillac is most popular with those planning to spend their time in Bergerac, as it lies just 16km from the region’s principal tourist spot; but also remains far away enough to feel rural and secluded.

Wine making is still very much the key part of the local economy, with no less than two dozen winemakers based in the village. It goes without saying that trying their wares is a must during your stay, and you will likely come away with plenty of ‘souvenirs’.

Gageac et Rouillac has a population of fewer than 500, so you are unlikely to find yourself queuing in shops, or getting crowded out when exploring the area’s attractions. The main draw for the village is its church, which was re-built in the 18th century and houses some interesting old artefacts.

To add extra value to your holiday in Gageac et Rouillac, why not visit during the end of July or the start of August – the time of the annual village festival.

Fabulous stay in Pomport

5 of 5
Serge and Bea are the perfect hosts. Serge bought us tarts he had made, wine and vegetables he had grown - very kind. Their home is very comfortable and the pool and garden are fantastic. The area around Bergerac has many beautiful villages to visit, excellent restaurants (Serge and Bea can advise) and of course superb vineyards to visit. Would like to return in future. Thanks Serge and Bea from Scotland!! 😎

Lovely, spacious house

4 of 5
Hi, We really loved our stay in the house - exactly what we were looking for with lots of space, a great pool and different areas for every to relax and hang out in. All of the bedrooms were comfortable, and the amount of bathrooms meant that there was never a wait! The only downside was the size of the kitchen. Based on the size of the house and room it was in, as well as the amount of people the house sleeps it really was tiny. As I am sure so many of the people who rent houses like this like to, a big part of a holiday to a remote area of France for us is to cook. There was only really room for one person at a time and cooking a big meal was a little taxing! With so much space on the ground floor the house would hugely benefit from a bigger kitchen! Aside from this we really did love the house! Thanks
