    Things to do

-Beaches: There are five beaches in the vicinity, mostly volcanic in appearance, apart from Las Arenas, which has 100 metres of fine sand and moderate waves. One of the best volcanic beaches is Juán Lopéz, which has calmer waters than most, coarse black sands and a backdrop of soaring cliffs. Other choices close by include the rocky Masca and gravelly Los Barqueros.

-Days out: A short hop east of Buenavista del Norte are gorgeous little towns like Garachico and Icod de los Vinos, both of which are off the beaten track and retain their colonial-era charm. Garachico has cobblestone streets and stately plazas. The history of this town is also fascinating, as it was almost wiped from the map by a volcanic eruption at the start in 1706. The waterfront fortress, Castillo de San Miguel, survived the eruption, and the mudejar-style church of San Francisco is also well worth seeing. HomeAway also has a choice of holiday homes in Garachico, for those who'd like to stay here.

-Golf: Buenavista Golf is just a few minutes along the coast from the town. It’s an 18-hole course designed by Seve Ballesteros in 2003 and is beautifully integrated with the volcanic environment. Here there are incredible vistas of the the Atlantic Ocean and the Macizo de Teno, a volcanic ridge that towers dramatically over parts of the course.

-Walks: The Macizo de Teno is also perfect for walkers, with three circular hiking routes provided. It creates the Punta de Teno, a large promontory taking up Tenerife’s westernmost tip, and among the many natural features are lava flows, caves and an incredible diversity of plant life as a result of the area’s humid microclimate. Hikers can traverse cliffs and negotiate steep ravines, while keeping an eye out for rich birdlife that includes ospreys, falcons, hawks and kestrels.

-El Teide: Impossible to miss is the awe-inspiring volcano El Teide, the peak of which is the highest point in Spain at 3,718 metres. There’s a cable car departing from the south side of El Teide, reaching a point near the top in less than ten minutes. From the station it’s possible to follow a hiking route to the peak, or to two other breathtaking lookouts.

    Weather in Buenavista del Norte

It’s not for nothing that Tenerife is called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. The Canary Islands are located closer to the equator than any other European destination, which results in year-round moderate and warm temperatures. Here in the northwestern corner the weather conditions are a little different to other parts of Tenerife because the coast faces the trade winds. This means there’s more rainfall around Buenavista del Norte holiday homes, especially between November and April. Summer highs hit 23?C and in winter temperatures still get up to the high-teens most days.
