Things to do

-Local beaches. Cala Jondal is a beach with a character quite unlike any other of its size on the island. Here the backdrop is almost completely free of development; just cliffs covered in pine forest. It's a long bay on a shallow slope, creating calm surf that would suit children and less experienced swimmers. A few minutes east is Las Salinas, a trendier and livelier beach with fine white sand.

-Ibiza Town. This is the best place to visit if you'd like to see Ibiza's history up close. The UNESCO-listed Dalt Vila here is a spectacular citadel with renaissance era walls and gates. Within the walls is a classic tangle of narrow streets flanked by old stone buildings. The highlight is the 14th Century Ibiza Cathedral, built on the foundations of the former mosque and representing a blend of gothic and baroque styles.

-Watersports. A few minutes by car from Cala Jondal, just on the other side of Ibiza Town, is where you'll be able to take a sea kayak course. After that you could take part on a tour, visiting locations like the Formentera Nature Reserve or simply exploring the coast for hidden coves. The transparent coastal waters of Ibiza are also ideal for diving, with 17 different centres on the island, providing courses and excursions for all levels.

-Outdoor recreation. On dry land there's plenty to reward anyone who'd like to get out and see Ibiza on foot or by bike. The area to the west of Cala Jondal is especially good for walks, boasting a very indented coastline of coves and small beaches that can only be arrived at via walking trails. There are also three companies on the island arranging bicycle tours, either by road or on rugged tracks over the steep hills around nearby Sant Josep.

-Cuisine. Ibiza is famous for its cosmopolitanism, and here you'll find restaurants representing a whole wealth of cuisines. If you'd like to sample traditional Ibizan cuisine, try fish and seafood dishes like bullit de peix, a fish stew, or the local variations of paella. A classic rural dish here is frita de porc, pork fried with peppers. mushrooms, garlic and potatoes.
