    Things to do

Moriani Plage is a small residential area lying just to the south of Santa Lucia di Moriani, on Corsica’s north-east coast. Since it’s a beach village, you’ll have the ocean almost on your doorstep.

-The beach is the main attraction in Moriani Plage and is wide and sandy. If you get tired of sunbathing or building sandcastles, you can take part in a variety of water-based activities like sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

-Hiking is very popular on the island and Corsica is a preferred destination for long-distance hiking. One of the great trails on the island is the Mare a Mare Nord. This route runs between Moriani Plage in the east and Cargèse in the west, taking you past attractions like the mountain citadel of Corte, the thermal springs of Guagno and along the Tavignano Valley. You’ll need at least a week to complete the entire route. However, you can also hike only part of the route from your holiday villa in Moriani Plage.

-Corte is about 20 miles to the south-west of Moriani Plage and the town is well worth a visit. It used to be the Corsican capital and is now home to the University of Corsica, giving it a relaxed, cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is a mountain town with lots of cobbled streets and narrow little alleys to explore. Holding fort over Corte where the Restonica and Tavignano Rivers meet is the Citadel, built on a rocky outcrop and dating from 1419.

-Lama is the place if you want to visit a truly authentic Corsican village on a day trip from your Moriani Plage holiday home. This is the Corsica of tourist brochures, with reddish brown buildings perched on a steep hillside and colourful flowers blooming in windowsills. Dating from the 12th century, the village boasts not only medieval architecture but also beautiful mansions built in the 18th century when the area experienced an economic boom due to olive cultivation. Many of the olive groves still exist in the surrounding countryside and you’ll even find sites where the oily little fruits are still pressed by hand.

-Bastia is north of Moriani Plage and is Corsica’s most important port. Built by the Genoese during the Middle Ages, the town still boasts many historic buildings, particularly in the area around the old port. Today it’s a busy commercial centre and if you’re here during the weekend, be sure to visit the market to stock up on provisions for your Moriani Plage holiday apartment.

    The weather in Moriani Plage

Moriani Plage has a pleasant Mediterranean climate. In summer, maximum temperatures reach around 29 °C while winters are quite cool, with daytime temperatures dropping to around 12 °C. Rain falls mainly in winter but even then there are usually only about a week’s worth of rainy days in a month.

    Getting to Moriani Plage

The best way to get to your Moriani Plage holiday apartment is to travel to Bastia and then hire a car for the short journey south. Bastia-Poretta Airport is about 10 miles south of town and during summer receives flights from a variety of European airports. Bastia’s importance as a port also means that there are several ferry routes that end here, from cities like Marseille, Nice and Genoa.
