Make a holiday apartment in El Faro your home away from home

El Faro apartments provide holidays with all the trappings of a Costa del Sol holiday, but with the privacy, freedom and comfort of self-catering accommodation. Mere minutes from villas in El Faro are Blue Flag beaches, numerous golf courses, high-quality family attractions and lots of interesting places to visit a little further away in the car. At an El Faro villa there’s the extra element of exclusivity, as many offer private gardens, pools, satellite TV and Internet access. It all adds up to a flexible holiday destination, catering to visitors of all ages and tastes.

    Things to do

-Beaches: There are several kilometres of inviting sandy beaches in both directions. El Faro’s own beach is a small bay that sits beneath the lighthouse “Faro” that gives the community its name. To the east is Fuengirola’s eight-kilometre series of beaches, backed by landmarks like the Moorish Sohail Castle. West is the broad and long Cala de Mijas, with great facilities and an array of watersports on offer.

-Golf: On this patch of the Costa del Sol there’s a tremendous range of golf courses, surely one of the best in Europe for choice and quality. Within a 30-minute radius there are more than 20 courses, the vast majority of which welcome guests. E Chapparal is closest to El Faro, with nine holes across undulating terrain and invigorating views out to sea.

-Attractions: In the summer kids and teenagers will have great fun at the Mijas Parque Aquático, which has slides that range from the high-speed “kamikaze” to the child-friendly “adventure river”. There also pools, jacuzzis and a range of other amusements. In Fuengirola there’s the humane Zoo Bioparc, which displays and carefully recreates the habitats of a variety of birds and small mammals.

-Days out: For upmarket shopping and a taste of the high life, Marbella is a posh day trip a few kilometres to the west. To the east is Malaga, the Costa del Sol’s main city and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. There’s a museum with a collection spanning several of his periods, as well as historical monuments from Roman (an amphitheatre) and Moorish times (the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro fortresses).

-Cuisine: Andalucia is the home of many of Spain’s most popular culinary exports. For instance, tapas is a regional speciality, with small portions of cured ham, deep-fried squid, potato omelette and patatas bravas (spicy potatoes) served as an accompaniment to wine and beer at local bars. Here, seafood and fish are a big part of the diet; try sardines, which are either fried or grilled on wooden skewers over log embers on the beach.
