Make a holiday rental home or accommodation in Peru your home away from home

Peru is a beautiful country in South America with an enormously rich culture. Home to some of the oldest cultures in the world, Peru is littered with astonishing ruins that still intrigue many historians, the most famous of which being the lost city of Machu Picchu, high in the mountains. Peru borders Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia.

Things to do in Peru

Peru is an awe-inspiring place. No country leaves you so humbled as Peru, as the giant deserted cities show what could be accomplished by ancient civilisations that have now disappeared, leaving very few clues as to who exactly they were. The lost city of Machu Picchu has to be seen to be believed, and the long treks that lead you to the city, known as the Inca trail are a marvel in themselves. The vast Nazca Lines are still a huge source of intrigue, although modern thinking suggests that they may be an ancient map of underground water ways essential to life in such times. The legendary Inca capital of Cuzco makes for astonishing viewing too.

Not only is Peru home to some of the world’s most astonishing man-made wonders, but the natural landscape is equally as impressive. The Peruvian Andes call to serious walkers and mountaineers, and are still home to traditional mountain people, who still live traditional lifestyles that have been left un-influenced by modern times. There are horse supported treks to enjoy too. The Tambopata Reserve and the Manu Biosphere Reserve are absolutely sensational places to visit, the latter known for having the greatest biodiversity in the world. There is also an infinite range of rock climbing routes throughout the Andes. River running is a new phenomenon in Peru, centred on the River Urabamba near Cuzco.

Places to visit on holiday in Peru

Machu Picchu has to be on the itinerary for every Peru holidays. The Inca Trail is a 33km trek through the Pyrenean Andes, taking you through mountain passes, orchid strewn mountain pastures and rural mountain villages to the astonishing deserted city of Machu Picchu, which was only discovered in the 20th century due to its wonderfully remote location, deep in the mountains.

Cuzco is one of the most visited sites in the whole of South America. The archaeological marvel of Cuzco has fascinated thousands of visitors each year, and the cathedral is absolutely awe-inspiring. Inca buildings and walls still make up much of the town, and you may not even realise how old your surroundings are.

Weather in Peru

The summer months last from January until March, and although there are great differences in temperatures between the low-lying coast and the high altitude mountain plateaus, conditions are largely hot and humid. You can expect temperatures to reach up towards 30°C on most days during this period. The winter months are still mild, but cloud cover is common, which is actually a blessing for those trying to tackle the Inca Trail or are hoping to walk and trek in the mountains, as these routes are certainly no walk in the park. Temperatures during the winter still reach around 20°C on most days though.
