    Almogia is a pretty town between Malaga and Antequera in the foothills of the Sierra del Hacho mountains. The town has had a long and interesting history, hence the ruins of the castle and remaining Torre de la Vela.     Almogia is well worth exploring on foot. The ruins of the castle, with its one remaining tower, are the most prominent landmark but the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is the most remarkable sight. It was built in 1552 for the Bishop of Malaga and has a wonderful coffered ceiling in the nave and many religious icons.The town's washhouse is an interesting structure with 30 earthenware basins which were fed by the waterwheel. It was in use until the 1990s!
