Enna is the name of both a city and a small province in the north of Sicily, Italy. The province is somewhat forgotten by tourists, who usually prefer to head to the busier north coast of the island, but if you are looking for somewhere that is a little bit quieter yet just as accessible, Enna could be the destination for you. Attractions in the area are mostly historical and the destination is ideal for a rural Sicilian break.

Things to do in Enna, Italy

The city of Enna is the biggest and most populated comune in the province, yet still only has a population for just 29,000, and staying in this destination has a small and friendly feel to it. At 931 metres above sea level, Enna is the highest provincial capital in Italy, and panoramic views can be had from all around the region.

The main points of interest in the province are historical, with the Villa Romana del Casale (in Piazza Armerina) a great place to start your sightseeing, being a spacious Roman villa that is home to a number of Roman mosaics. Also worth visiting in Enna are the 13th century Enna Duomo (Cathedral) and the Castello di Lombarida – the biggest castle in the whole of Sicily. Enna is an important archaeological area, and you can see some of the finds from the region in the Archaeological Museum of Aidone, which is located in the town of Morgantina.
