A planned expansion project for the airport is scheduled to be completed in 2013. Visitors can easily pick up a hire car from the airport and drive the 118 miles north to Topsail Island along the US-17. Alternatively, there is a domestic airport at Wilmington (ILM) just 38 miles away with connections from most US hub cities.
